One thing we have learned at Girl Scouts is that if you want girls to come to your programs, you include animals! Almost every girl I have had the pleasure of working with loves to work with and learn about animals.
This year, the Program Team created a new virtual event called “Pawsitively Perfect Professionals”. This program highlights many of the incredible jobs that include some form of animal interaction. We want girls to be exposed to different professions, so they can broaden their occupational horizons. How can girls dream about jobs they don’t even know exist?
We had our first session of “Pawsitively Perfect Professionals” on February 13th. It was an absolute success! We showcased professionals from across the state of Nebraska. . . including our very own East Point Hospice and Curbside Magic Mobile Pet Spaw. The two-hour event was a mix of videos and live interviews. Girls love a chance to feel a part of the interview and take full advantage of our question & answer time.
Other highlights of the day were a demonstration of equine chiropractic care by the Medicine Valley Veterinary Hospital, a presentation about opossums by the Wildlife Rescue Team and a lively showing of owls, falcon and hawks by the Raptor Rehabilitation Program with Fontanelle Forest.
Over 30 girls were enchanted with every minute of this program from start to finish. They asked funny, yet thoughtful questions of our experts and now they have so much more to dream about.
Our next session of Pawsitively Perfect Professionals will take place on April 10th from noon- 2:00pm. If you would like to join us virtually, just email membersupport@girlscoutsnebraska.org and register today! This program is only $8.00 (for registered Girl Scouts) and you can participate from the comfort of your own home. Any questions or you want to join the Girl Scout sisterhood?
