Peltz Co Seniors Pound out 8 Hits in 11 to 1 Victory over Bridgeport

A combination of a three hitter by pitcher Cody Galles and 11 runs was all that was needed as the Alliance Senior Legion baseball team downed the Bombers of Bridgeport 11 to 1 in a contest played in Alliance on Tuesday. The Spartans scored 5 big runs in the second and were never challenged. Galles went the distance, going 5 innings and striking out 4. The game was called in the fifth due to the run rule. Shortstop Tony Escamilla and catcher Mikey Johnson led the offense for the Spartan offense by having 2 hits each. Lead off batter Espen Lanik scored 3 runs for the Peltz Co.

A sweet double play by the Spartans in the top of the first denied the Bombers any early momentum. Johnson also helped the cause by gunning a Bridgeport runner who was trying to steal second. In the home half of the inning Lanik reach via a hit by batter and eventually scored. Galles then walked and scored Alliance’s second run thanks to a RBI ground out by Kaden Ferguson. A third run was then scored by Nason Thompson who followed with a single and scored on an RBI single by Escamilla. After one inning the Spartans led 3 to 0. Bridgeport would score their lone run in the second with a pair of hits. The game would really turn in favor of Alliance in the bottom of the second as the Spartans plated 5 runs. Lanik led off by reaching on a Bomber error and would score on a Galles double. A single by Ferguson would then score Galles as the Spartan lead grew to 5 to 1. Following an Alliance out, walks by Escamilla and Carver Nenmich loaded the bases for Johnson who singled, scoring another Spartan run.

An RBI ground out by Creighton Fritzler ended the scoring with Alliance leading 8 to 1 after 2 innings of play. Galles was strong in the visitor’s half of the third by striking out 2 Bombers and allowing no runs. Three more Petlz Co. runs put the game away in the third. Walks by Lanik and Thompson were followed by hits by Escamilla and Braeden Clarke.

Johnson was up next and he singled, scoring 2 more runs. After three innings the Alliance lead grew to 11 to 1. A Galles strike out was then followed by another Spartan double play as the Bombers went scoreless in the top of the fourth. Alliance was also held scoreless in the fourth as the game went to the fifth and final inning with the Spartans still out in front 11 to 1. In the fifth Galles would record his fourth strike out and the game ended with the Peltz Co winning 11 to 1.
