The Sunken Gardens are set to see new life after the Alliance City Council approved a construction bid, bringing the Pillars for the Park Project one step closer to fruition.
At their meeting on July 7, council members members reviewed the bids that were submitted: one from K.L. Wood for the amount of $544,892, and another from Eric Reichert Construction for the amount of $619,286.03. Council Member Brian Mischnick noted that both bids came in lower than expected, and made a motion to accept the bid from K.L. Wood.
The council members voted unanimously in favor of the bid. Tami Swearingen, who has spearheaded fundraising for the Pillars for the Park project thanked the council for approving the bid. Mayor Mike Dafney thanked the group for their hard work.
“It will be a really beneficial project for the city, and something that the citizens paid for themselves, other than the matching grant,” Sprock said in an interview with the Alliance Times-Herald. “It’s pretty amazing to see.”
