Pitching by Lore, Hitting by Garcia Helps Navy Get Past Preps

A combination of solid starting pitching and a 3 hit effort by Israel Garcia were the keys for the Peltz Co navy team in a victory over the Spartan prep club 6 to 3 in action Monday. In American Legion play, the Spartan navy squad grabbed an early lead and hung on for a win in a game played in Alliance. Starting pitcher Eban Lore went 4.2 innings and struck out 5 in getting the win. Garcia went 3 for 3 and drove in 3 runs to lead the offense. Miguel Galvan added 2 hits for the Peltz Co team. Starting on the mound for Preps was Logan Freiberger who went 3 innings and had 4 k’s. The preps ended with 6 hits overall while the navy team finished with 8 hits.

Hits by Garcia and Galvan opened the first for the navy but both were left on the bases. The preps took a 1 to 0 lead in the home half of the first. Knocks by Casyn Nelson, Freiberger, and Esai Trejo helped the preps surge ahead. Nelson would eventually steal home and the inning closed with the Navy down 1 to 0. In the 2nd, no runs were registered. The navy offense came alive in the top of the third. A pair of walks and hits again by Galvan and Garcia gave the navy a 2 to 1 advantage. With the bases full, Spartan Kyler Hamel was hit by a pitch that increased their lead. The prep team went 1-2-3 in the third and the action went to the fourth with the navy up 3 to 1.

Inning #4 had the navy offense coming to life again. RBI hits by Garcia and Reese Muhr kept the pressure of the preps. A dropped third strike followed as the Navy went ahead 5 to 1. Prep relief pitcher Cisco Cody would have a hit in the bottom of the fourth but failed to score. In the final frame, the navy added to its margin. Preston Flores walked and eventually would steal home to push the navy lead to 5. Hits by Jayden Garcia and Teagen O’Gorman were next but no more runs were plated. The prep group made things interesting in the bottom of the fifth. Cody reached after being struck by a pitch and advanced after a hit by AJ Garcia. Both runners would score on a 2 run double by Braden Myers that made the tally 6 to 3. Navy relief pitcher Carson Stull ended the game with a strike out. Final Navy 6 Prep 3
