Point of Rock Chapter NSDAR Minutes

By DOROTHY CARNINE

Secretary

Point of Rock Chapter, NSDAR, met for a delicious Salad luncheon at 1Pm in the Rosewood Estates meeting room with 5 members present. Linda Stuphen was our hostess. The Opening Ritual and Pledge of Allegiance were led by Regent Audrey Hoerler.

President General’s Message: We know for certain that our founders rose up and they never gave up, staying the course in good times and bad, bequeathing to each of us who follow an astounding legacy of courage, purpose and determination. Now may we summon the same courage. Our chapter should compel us forward to keep DAR flourishing. May we bring our best to every chapter meeting.

National Defense: Most Americans are probably unaware of Free Speech Week, even though it celebrates one of our most cherished freedoms, the first freedom granted in the First Amendment to the US Constitution. As told in the book, Liberty’s First Crisis: Adam, Jefferson, and the Misfits Who Saved Free Speech, by Charles Slack, this early dispute over free speech and a free press was a clash of political, geographical and social attitudes, and often the “new” Americans—the immigrants– had a greater feeling for freedom of speech and the press than those how had been native born.

Indian Minutes: Dances have always been a very important part of the American Indian. Some believe that the War Dance Societies of the Ponca and other Southern Plains Tribes were the origin of the Powwow. PowWows.com -founded in 1996, is your online gatherings for all things Native American culture.

Secretary’s Report: minutes approved as read.

Business: the new application for the Eda Hempel, Point of Rock Chapter, DAR Scholarship has been completed and has been delivered to Box Butte County Schools.

Regent Audrey thanked Linda for being our hostess. Our hostess for November is Colleen Garner and will be in Hemingford. Meeting adjourned at 2:15 p.m.
