Point of Rock Chapter, NSDAR, met for a dessert meeting at the Sallows Military Museum at 1 p.m. with five members present. Our hostess was Anne Adam, she served fruit cake and ice cream in memory of our ancestors feasts.
Regent Audrey Hoerler led us in the Pledge of Allegiance and Opening Ritual. She then read the President General’s Message: Traditions connect the generations. Holiday traditions help us not only honor our past but also ensure that our values will be carried forward. For many of us this is the most wonderful time of the year together with family and friends to savor feasts and make memories.
National Defender: Wreaths Across America. The mission of WAA is “Remember. Honor. Teach.” Laying wreaths on graves of veterans honors those who serve and teaches children about sacrifices made by veterans and their families to preserve our freedoms. DAR is a corporate sponsor of WAA. Our aims of Historic Preservation, Patriotism, and Education meshes with WAA. NSDAR encourages chapters to support WAA with both sponsorship of wreaths and placement.
Indian minutes: Southeast Indians have the largest Native American tribe, the Cherokee. Other tribes include the Seminole in Florida and the Chickasaw. These tribes tended to stay in one place and were skilled farmers.
Secretary’s report was approved as read.
Business: America is going to celebrate its 205th anniversary in the year 2026. Nebraska DAR is going to place 2 Revolutionary War markers in the state, one in the east and one in the west. They will be a gift from NE DAR chapters. They will be $4800 each will be 30in by 30in. Fundraising has begun and any amount donated is welcome.
Program: Anne pointed out some new exhibits in the museum and invited us to go to the Knight Museum and see the Christmas wreaths and trees auction. It is quite beautiful and many people have been very creative.
We thanked Anne for being our hostess and enjoyed the museum. Our next meeting will be at Rosewood Estates on Jan. 8, 2022. Each member is asked to share with bringing some leftover treats from the holidays.
Meeting adjourned at 2:15 p.m.
