Rapid City Shoots Past Spartan Juniors 12 to 2

The Rapid City Shooters used 14 hits and 7 walks to score 12 runs in a 12 to 2 win over the Alliance Peltz Co Spartan junior team in a contest played Saturday afternoon in Alliance. Rapid scored in five of the seven innings and led throughout the game. Pitching for the Spartans were Nason Thompson and Miguel Galvan. Alliance did total 5 hits on the day but it wasn’t enough. A three run third inning by the Shooters was too much for the Peltz Co to overcome. Alliance would score in the first inning but were shutout in second, third, fourth, and fifth inning as Rapid City held on to the momentum.

Two Shooter hits plus to 2 walks netted the guests an early 1 to 0 lead in the top of the opening inning. Shortstop and leadoff hitter Tony Escamilla gave Alliance hope in the bottom of the inning with a single to began a rally. Mikey Johnson would then reach following a sac bunt and an error by the guests. A wild pitch by Rapid then score Escamilla and the game went to the second tied at one all. The Shooters would retake the lead in the second. Rapid used a leadoff single and a triple to grab the advantage.

In all, the visitors would score 2 runs to surge ahead 3 to 1. Three groundouts by Alliance in the second kept the score at 3 to 1 after two innings of action. The momentum would stay with the Shooters in the top of inning #3. Rapid City Post 320 scored three runs in the third thanks to a couple of hits and an Alliance error. Alliance failed to score in the third as the game went to the fourth with the Spartans trailing 6 to 1. The scoring continued for the Shooters in the fourth and fifth with the guests scoring one run in each of the frames. Heading to the sixth Rapid led 8 to 1. A double by Kobe Strom in the bottom of the sixth helped Alliance get back on the scoreboard. An RBI single by Thompson scored Strom and sliced the Spartan deficit to 8 to 2 going to the final inning. Four more Shooter runs in the seventh put the contest away. Rapid used 4 hits and 2 walks to increase their lead to 12 to 2. Alliance would get hits in the seventh from Jackson Smith and Carson Stull to began a late rally but 3 straight outs would end the contest. Final Rapid City 12 Alliance 2
