Round one of the Western Conference Tournament began for the Alliance girl’s basketball team on Thursday with a contest against top seeded Sidney. The Lady Bulldogs played close for a half but in the end it was the Raiders racing to a 57 to 16 win. Alliance trailed only by 9 at half before Sidney put the game away with a 26 point effort in the third. Senior Macey Seebohm led the Alliance offense with 10 points.
Points were hard to come across in the opener. Seebohm would account for the lone points in the first as the Red Raiders slowly built a lead. With under three minutes remaining the quarter, a Sidney 2 gave the Raiders an 8 point lead. No more goals would then be scored and after one period of action, Sidney led 10 to 2. Two hoops by Seebohm gave AHS a chance in the second. A 2 pointer by the Bulldog guard at the 4 minute mark pulled the Dogs to within 4 at 10 to 6. Sidney answered back with the period’s final 5 tallies and the teams went to half with the Lady Bulldogs down 15 to 6.
Five quick points by the Raiders is how the third started. A free throw by Seebohm at the 6 minute stage stopped the run with AHS now behind 20 to 7. Following 2 free throws by Sidney, Alliance saw a 2 pointer by Giselle Gonzalez that made the score Sidney 22 Alliance 9. Four in a row by the Raiders later in the quarter made the Alliance deficit stand at 17 before a three pointer by Seebohm got AHS to within 14. Unfortunately, it would be the Dogs’ final points of the period. The Raiders finished the quarter by scoring 15 consecutive points and led 41 to 12 after three periods of action. In the fourth, the Raiders’ lead went to 35 as Sidney netted 9 in a row to increase their advantage. A three by Bulldog Miah Marsteller at the 5 minute mark stopped the spree but 7 to 0 run by the Raiders made the score 57 to 15. The contest closed with a free throw by Alliance’s Addison Weber and Sidney winning 57 to 16.
