Reflections for the Week of April 15-19

Accounting and Finance:

• Attended Employee Activity Committee meeting.

• Capital review with City Manager.

• Attended Council Meeting.

• Paid Council claims.

• Attended Department leader meeting.

• Attended Budget Review with Utility Office Manager.

• Attended Caselle Connect online access Demo.

• Completed payroll.

Electric:

• The high winds on Monday caused several issues, one being a broken pole at 3rd and Ramblin Road, and several smaller issues.

• Replaced pole at 3rd and Ramblin Road.

• Replaced several pieces of line equipment on Bruce Furniture tap line.

• All personnel attended monthly NECC safety meeting.

• Replaced/repaired several issues on rural system, storm repair.

• Work continued on services for new Westco buildings.

• We continue to make progress on the three-phase line extension for the Schiff feedlot expansion project.

• Making progress on ’24-’25 budget preparation.

• Installed/replaced several street/flood lights.

Transit:

• 859 riders this week.

• Sent 1 employee for random drug testing.

Landfill:

• 160 customers this week.

• 577 tons of refuse this week.

• Foreman completed line-item budget entries with department Director.

• Laid cover on MSW.

• Moved wind screens to maximize efficiency.

• Moved and stacked bales.

• Completed baler repairs.

Water/Sewer:

• Completed 4” ewer tap on Plains St.

• Prepared Carhenge water system for summer season.

• Hydro Excavated power pole for line crew.

• Exercised valve in preparation for Westco construction and main shutdown.

• Collected and sent weekly water samples and chlorine residuals.

• Sent two employees to water and sewer classes.

• 15 additional water radios installed.

• 15 utility office work orders completed.

• 12 locates completed.

• Fixed chlorine leaks at Elkhorn well.

• Blew out collector at sewer lake intake.

• Sent 2 employees for random drug testing.

Streets:

• 12 locates.

• Completed service on units 916 and 915.

• Continued grade work on alleys.

• Replaced ignition switch on tractor.

• Removed parking lines on Laramie.

• Attended DOT meeting.

• Picked up tree branches after the wind.

• Hauled sweeper dirt.

• Attended 8th St. overlay pre-construction meeting.

Airport:

• Our new airport employee, Dan Kinser started work. We are happy to welcome him to our team.

• Prescribed burn has been cancelled due to weather, we will work on this for next year.

• Scheduled interviews of consulting firms for the update to the Airport Layout Plan.

• Scheduling and coordination of the electrical repair of airfield lights is close to being

complete. The sooner this is repaired the better, which will result in less interruption to airport users.

• Radio installation on the new tractor was completed. The tractor is now ready for airfield work!

• Bids for the seal coat project were opened on Thursday. The airport received 5 bids for the project. The bid award recommendation with be on the council agenda in May.

• Tumble weeds were an issue with the high winds this week.

• Staff completed required DOT training.

• Training of new employee has been the big focus this week.

Police:

• Welcomed our newest officer, Parker Dahlberg to the force.

• Updated Use of Force Policy related to Officer Safety concerns and liability concerns.

• Updated numerous other policies based on best practices and feedback from staff.

• Met with staff to discuss ideas for increased visibility and proactive patrols as the summer approaches.

• Attended City Council Meeting.

• Attended Staff Meeting.

• Attended Activate Alliance Meeting.

• Reinstated Bicycle Registration which will now be free to the public.

• Attended NSA Joint Legislative Meeting.

• Reviewed three Special Event Permits.

• Recognized our dispatchers throughout the week with special treats to celebrate their hard work during National Telecommunicators Week.

Library:

• Spring is a busy new release season in the book publishing industry, and items have certainly been rolling in! There are so many new titles in all genres to come check out! Make sure to look at the displays created by the library staff featuring some unique collections.

• Technical Services Librarian Emily Nelson made book mobile deliveries, helped several patrons with our Libby services, and helped create items for upcoming fundraising events.

• Adult Services Librarian Nalani Stewart cataloged new materials and planned future programming. She also hosted the Crime After Crime Book Club, the book club at Highland Park Care Center, and the Art A La Carte Craft club.

• Children’s Librarian Cynthia Horn held Story Time featuring “The Five Senses”, hosted LEGO Club, and continued to share Spring Coloring Contest sheets. She also made preparations for the Mother/Daughter Tea Party, did KCOW announcements, organized the Book Mobile, performed inventory, maintained backpacks, and cataloged new items.

• Library Clerks Pam Becker and Stephanie Hamilton have been helping with the Mother/Daughter Tea preparations and preparing new Spring items for circulation.

Parks:

• Started installing all the water meters to get ready for irrigation & bathroom start up.

• Started the spring fertilizer application.

• Assisted Maintenance with cabinet install at the Senior Center.

• Assisted with sign install on the North wall of the Museum.

Golf:

• Golf activities continued to be consistent when weather allowed.

• The tournament schedule was finalized for the 2024 golf season.

• The Men’s Club scheduled a clean-up day to assist staff in getting the course cleaned up after winter.

• Course is in extremely good shape thanks to maintenance staff and a relatively mild winter.

• Staff is preparing for the AHS Invite on Tuesday of this week.

• Planted some young trees to get a tree nursery started in an effort to add trees to the course as possible.

Administration:

• Attended City Council Meeting

• City Manager attended Fire Hall Design Workshop along with Fire Chief, Shoemaker.
