• Placed a child with DHHS due to the child not receiving necessary medical treatment.
Public Works:
• NDOR – 3rd St. project milling and overlay has resumed.
• Flack Ave ADA ramp replacements completed.
• Grading work for Fire training facility completed.
• Gravel road grade work underway.
• Sewer pivot de-winterization underway.
• Filter media replacement underway at 18th and Colorado.
• Landfill 305 tons this week.
• Water 287 total remote radios installed.
• Transit 685 riders this week.
• Carhenge de-winterized.
HR:
• Participated in the Western Nebraska HR Management Association Conference in Gering, Nebraska.
• The department continues to accept applications for open positions of Finance Director, Airport Maintenance, Water Maintenance, Fire Apparatus Engineer/EMT, Police Officer; and Part Time Account Clerk I and Public Transit Driver, as well as all open Seasonal positions.
• Conducting pre-employment screenings for new hires.
• Ongoing management of benefit enrollment, FMLA requests, work-related injury reporting and other Employee requests.
Airport:
• Final inspection was completed for the insurance claim from 2020. All items have been completed through the contractor.
• Bid opening for the taxiway/apron project took place at City Hall. Only one bid was received but it was lower than the budgeted amount. Bid award recommendation will be presented to the City Council on May 3rd.
• Continue to work on required updates for airport security plan, emergency plan, and certification manual.
• Staff spent time chasing tumbleweeds, working prairie dogs, and training new hire.
Carhenge:
• Cleaned the Pit Stop & arranged it for the start of season.
• Hooked up the point of sale system and ensured effective operation.
• Unpacked boxes and arranged inventory by size for storage.
• Ordered concession snacks and drinks for the season.
RSVP & Senior Center:
• Attended a meeting in Scottsbluff with the Office of Aging.
• Continued to deliver and provide in-house meals for area seniors.
• Working on the kitchen remodel project.
Library:
• This week we had 548 visitors in the library.
• Children’s Librarian Cynthia Horn conducted a STEM activity on nature for children.
• Technical Services Librarian Nalani Stewart offered Technology tutoring on Monday evening for adults.
• We are picking up the Jeep purchased by the APL Foundation Friday to use as the Bookmobile! Many thanks to the Foundation for purchasing this for us in an effort to expand our services!
• We are excited to announce that we will be bringing back the Wonka Bar raffle again this year! We will begin June 1st and go through the Friday before Heritage Days. Come in and get your chance at winning a Golden Ticket for a Heritage Days wristband!
Parks:
• Started irrigation at the Cemetery, Bower Park and the softball complex.
• Sod was installed on A & C fields at the softball complex. That will be watered by hand over the weekend due to an irrigation leak that will be fixed Monday.
• Two funerals this week.
• Continued with several improvement projects at the pool.
• Conducted additional interviews for seasonal staff.
Museum:
• Hosted several school tours and scheduled several more for the next few weeks.
• Catered for two events.
• Hosted the Museum Partners meeting.
• Hosted the Box Butte County Art society meeting.
• Displayed additional art in several areas of the museum.
• Electric Crews used their bucket trucks to repair flashing damaged during the high winds.
Pool:
• Designed pool passes for the 2022 season. Those will be on sale beginning May 9th.
• Continued registration for swim lessons.
• Conducted additional interviews for seasonal staff. We continue to be short of experienced staff and additional assistant managers are needed.
• Received water quality monitoring equipment for the 2022 season.
Golf:
• Hosted the Alliance Invitational on a very windy day.
• Inventory of existing items and the addition of new items to inventory continues.
• Collecting payments of memberships and other fees continues.
Electric:
• Continue to work on the three-phase rebuild project on Valley Road east of HWY 385.
• The high winds on Thursday caused an outage at the PAC Center, luckily it was later in the afternoon, as crews had to splice the primary wire in order to restore power.
• Continue to perform maintenance on various parts of the electric system as time and weather allow.
BBDC:
• Presented the Alliance Power Plant to a Resource Roundtable on Brownfields in hopes of redeveloping that building and the surrounding area.
• Met with John Levy & John Scott of the William & Ruth Scott Family Foundation Tuesday, sharing projects going on in our communities.
• Attended the Activate Alliance meeting Thursday Morning.
• Attended the Heartland Expressway monthly board meeting virtually.
• Continue to work with the Chamber of Commerce to discuss Leadership Box Butte.
