Notable Service:

• Satisfaction rating 91%.

• Former patrol car sold for around $13,000 with bad transmission. Funds go to the general fund.

Finance:

• Utility office and Finance office will participate in Summer hours as listed:

City Treasurer:

• Attended IT advisory meeting 4-21. Capital projects for next fiscal were discussed.

• Reviewed information on document storage systems and attended zoom meeting.

• Attended ClearGov transitional meeting.

Electric:

• We attended our monthly NECC safety meeting.

• We are working on upgrades to two irrigation well transformer banks.

• Repaired/replaced several streetlights.

• We are performing maintenance on several areas of our rural system.

• We upgraded three service locations for Trailerville court.

RSVP & Senior Center:

• Continued planning for the annual RSVP recognition dinner which is on May 6th. Volunteers are needed to help serve. Call Angie at the Senior Center to volunteer.

• Served in house and delivery meals.

Parks:

• Fertilized all of the large parks. Turned the water on at Sudman Field.

• All the restrooms and concession stands are on.

• Repaired irrigation as necessary during start up.

• Moved fill dirt onto infields at Sudman East.

• Cleaned up dirt and concrete piles left in the parking lot at Sudman.

• Streets assisted by grading and spreading crushed concrete to improve the parking lot.

• Rolled the outfield at Bower field.

• Working on removing and painting over graffiti in several park areas.

Museum:

• Museum staff hosted several school tours for classes from Alliance and Hemingford.

• Tourist traffic started to pick up significantly this week.

• Continued taking swim lesson registrations.

• Hosted the APD training for 2 days.

• Hosting the Alliance Public Schools Annual Silent Auction Fundraiser in the gallery. The event ends on Saturday April 29th.

• Currently hosting the KAB “Untrashed Art” Exhibit Artists reception in conjunction with the BBGH that ends on Friday April 28th.

• Cleaned up the basement and organized storage to make preparations for several upcoming graduation rentals.

• Hosted the monthly Knight Museum & Sandhills Center advisory board.

• Hosted a local community club that had a program on Iceland.

Library:

• Technical Services Librarian Emily Nelson updated the Facebook and Instagram pages, updated website information, and processed the week’s Interlibrary loans. She also assisted patrons and made the weekly Bookmobile deliveries.

• Adult Services Librarian Nalani Stewart aided in several Circuit projects and hosted APL Book Club with 13 in attendance as well as BYOB Club. She also hosted the book club at the Highland Park Care Center and cataloged new fiction and non-fiction books.

• Children’s Librarian Cynthia Horn featured Super Heroes with our Story Timers dressed up as their favorite super heroes! A special Story Time feature was shared on Friday, April 28 with Rylie Wright, Miss Scotts Bluff County’s Outstanding Teen, whose platform is “Literature for Littles”! We are grateful for St. Agnes seventh graders who prepared “All Together Now” Summer Reading packets on Friday morning! This is a wonderful annual service project and it helps tremendously with our Summer Reading preparations!

• Cynthia also gathered books for seven Book Mobile groups this week and was busy finalizing plans for their final delivery of this school year! There are new items to catalog and many backpacks to check. Cynthia also has many Facebook and website updates, posters, and flyers to share full of Summer Reading information.

• Library Clerks Kris Wilder and Pam Becker have been busy keeping up with maintenance of the DVD collection! They also have been helping with APL Foundation sponsored items for the benefit auction for COA department head Ross Grant, which will be held May 21! The library staff and Foundation are excited about participating in this event as Ross has always been a tremendous help to the library!

Landfill:

• 245 customers.

• 326.48 tons.

• Ended tire amnesty. 443.88 tons collected in total.

• Moved dirt.

• Laid cover.

• Moved bales.

Transit:

• 632 riders.

Water/Sewer

• Installed new antenna at sewer lake pump house.

• Changed oil in 100hp & 50hp motors at sewer lake.

• Worked on Well 1 in the well field.

• TV sewer line on 8th and Emerson.

• Consulted with plumber on WESTCO tap.

• De-winterized sewer lake pump house.

• Weekly water samples.

• Chlorine residuals.

• 45 locates.

• 22 work orders.

• Interviewed for Water/Sewer position.

• Exercised valves at sewer lake and for WESTCO tap.

Streets:

• Street Sweeping.

• Grading alleyways and parking lots.

• Parking Lot improvements at Bower-Shankland Field

• Vehicle repairs.

• Sign Repairs.

Airport:

• Maintenance staff completed Firearm training.

• Maintenance of road around the warehouse area was completed.

• Clean up and mowing around warehouses.

• Mowing equipment serviced.

• Special night inspection of airfield marking and signs was conducted on Monday.

• Landscape work around the terminal was completed.

• Wildlife Fence around the airfield inspected and required minor repairs and holes filled.

• Winter clean up on the airfield safety areas was completed.

• Training of new employee continues with on the job training along with power points meeting FAA requirements.

• Taxiway/Apron Rehabilitation Project is still in the Taxiway A phase. Weather continues to hold things up slightly.

• Van Pelt Fencing has completed work on the T-Hangar gate. Maintenance shop gate work should be completed today.

• Participated in multiple meetings in regards to the MALSR lighting system on the airfield.

• Budget work and upcoming trainings continue to be worked on.

Fire:

• Confirmed training dates for Hazardous Materials Operations Level certification in Alliance being taught by the Nebraska Fire Marshal Training Division.

• Staff attended ER/ICU/Trauma Committee meeting at Box Butte General Hospital.

• Staff prepared for Annual ARFF Live-burn training at Ellsworth Air Force Base next Tuesday and Wednesday.

HR:

• Attended training for current HR best practices and Employment Law at the WNHRMA Annual Conference in Gering.

• Assisting Public Works and Culture & Leisure Services Departments with seasonal hiring in Streets, Water, Carhenge, Golf and Parks.

• Completed the League of Nebraska Municipalities survey for wages, benefits and insurance to verify comparability with communities across Nebraska.

• Conducting Interviews and extending offers for open positions.

• Assisting departments to ensure compliance with meeting required pre-employment conditions.

• Responding to requests from interested community members regarding jobs and application requirements.
