Reflections for the Week of April 4-8

Fire:

• Met with footing contractor, Public Works Director and staff to kick off site work for the fire training facility location.

• Chief Shoemaker attended the BSA Troop 216 Spring 2022 Court of Honor Monday evening.

• Participated in a phone conference with Airport Staff and Global ARFF Services. • Data uploaded with FlowMSP Pre-Incident Fire Planning which is ahead of schedule.

Electric:

• Finished the single phase rebuild project on Nance Road west of HWY 385 • On Wednesday a large pine tree blew over and fell into our lines by the Parker Plant, causing a large outage east of town. We were able to isolate the downed lines and return service to everyone except Parker in just a matter of minutes. The Parker plant was re energized in less than 2 hours after we removed the tree and repaired the lines. • We have experienced a few other small outages caused by the excessive winds. We are replacing a pole at 18th and Box Butte that was damaged from the strong winds. • Performed our required monthly operation of one generator at Cody Plant. Police Admin:

• Several supervisors attended the city-wide first-line supervisor class.

• South Central 911 Meeting

• Picked up animal control vehicle from Torrington

• Central Square maintenance and overview meeting

• SRO transition and new implementation plan

Police Communications/Intelligence:

• Street department preparing lot for fire department training center

• Crews assisting with courthouse sewer project

HR:

Parks:

• Summer staffing continues to be an issue. We are still short approximately six seasonal employees which will prevent us from providing full services.

• Worked at the pool repairing umbrella frames, repainting the octopus and painting the hallways

• Went through the spray equipment and made several repairs in preparation for herbicide application

• Worked on quotes for several shop repairs

• Moved supplies and materials out of the Sallows shop building

• Repaired the snow broom for summer storage or possible snow next week • Going through mowers and preparing them for the mowing season

• Anticipating our new Hustler mower delivery next week

• Collected trash and tumble weeds after the winds

• Conducted a meeting with electrician regarding tennis court light install. Golf:

• Designed and ordered the memorial sign for the water bottle filler that was donated. • Continue to have issues with the picker cart. Masek worked on it again so we hope the issues is fixed

Museum:

• Catered for BNSF training four days this week

• Assisted with several individuals researching Alliance High School graduates in the Heritage Room

• Returned numerous calls for information from the Heritage Room

• Hosted swim team sign ups

Pool:

• Finalized the first round of hiring interviews and stated assembling staffing lists • Started ordering equipment and chemical for the 2022 season

• Worked with local contractors to schedule repairs prior to opening.

Library:

• Thursday night we featured the Jeff Barnes program on the Modisett baseball park in Rushville with 30 people attending. We served hot dogs and other ball park refreshments. • Our next Humanities presentation will be Monday, April 25th at 6:30PM featuring NE State poet Matt Mason.

• Next week begins our first craft session for the Storytime parents! We will be making macramé plant hangers.

• We are planning fun Easter activities for the kids including the Little Blue Peep search and an Easter egg hunt during Storytime!

• Coordinated with an HVAC contractor to determine the best short term plan to ensure cooling for the 2022 season.

Airport:

• Passenger count for March was 327 enplaned and 308 deplaned. This is almost 100 more passengers over last year in March. Denver Air Connection had to cancel one round trip flight this week due to winds. We also experienced a number of delays but all passengers were accommodated to other flights.

• Denver Air Connection is going back to a tiered pricing similar to what they had in the past due to the increased fuel costs. Denver Air Connection has changed our schedule starting in June due to added routes. Our morning flight is moving back by only 15 minutes and our afternoon flight is moving back roughly 50 minutes. Our evening flight is also moving back by 15 minutes. Listed below is our new schedule as of June 1st:

M-W-TH-F-Sun: Leave Alliance at 6:45 a.m. and arrive in Denver at 7:45 a.m. Leave Denver at 12:35 p.m. and arrive in Alliance at 1:35 p.m.

Leave Alliance at 1:50 p.m. and arrive in Denver at 2:50 p.m.

Leave Denver at 7:15 p.m. and arrive in Alliance at 8:15 p.m.

Tuesday: Leave Alliance at 6:45 a.m. and arrive in Denver at 7:45 a.m. Leave Denver at 7:15 p.m. and arrive in Alliance at 8:15 p.m.

Saturday: Leave Alliance at 6:45 a.m. and arrive in Denver at 7:45 a.m. Leave Denver at 4:00 p.m. and arrive in Alliance at 5:00 p.m.

• Continue to work with Human Resources to fill our vacancy at the airport. • Pre-bid meeting was conducted for the Taxiway and Apron Rehabilitation. Two contractors were in attendance.

• Annual Wildlife Training was conducted with the USDA qualified biologist. • Staff participated in supervisor training.

• ARFF truck inspection was completed with one repair remaining.

• Insurance claim from 2020 completed with the final inspection to be scheduled next week.

• Tumble weeds have overtaken the airport with the high winds! Maintenance had their hands full this week.

BBDC:

• Submitted a quarterly E-news update on behalf of the Heartland Expressway Association to the Ports-To-Plains Alliance

• Met with multiple prospects and discussed financing, available real estate, and project feasibility

• We continue to work with the Chamber on establishing the “Leadership Box Butte” program, and we hope to launch our public relations campaign next month. • Gave community tour to a City Finance Director candidate

• Attended monthly CRA meeting

• Attended monthly zoom update with UNL Placemaking team where we discussed the Sandhills Center for Hope project as well as the ARC

• Met via zoom with one of the three interns/Rural Fellows coming to Alliance this summer
