Reflections for the Week of February 5-9

HR:

∙ Preparing for Civil Service and Police Review Board interviews for Police Officers and Sergeants, conducting applicant testing for same.

∙ Recruitment for Seasonal positions at the Alliance High School Job Fair.

∙ Working with department heads to fill open positions, including interviews, pre-employment conditions, and testing.

∙ Accepting applications for Part-Time Flexible Schedule Certified Police Officer, Full-Time Police Officer, and all Seasonal Positions.

Water/Sewer:

∙ Vactored out fire hall shop pit.

∙ Installed new pre lube solenoid at well 2.

∙ Attended water class in Bridgeport.

∙ Completed 2 water taps.

∙ Installed new booster pump.

∙ Rebuilt all broken plumbing in tank fill station.

∙ Completed weekly water samples.

∙ Completed weekly chlorine residuals.

∙ Flushed hydrants on Box Butte.

∙ 31 utility office work orders.

∙ 9 locates.

Streets:

∙ Worked on dirt road approaches.

∙ Painted curb in Lakefield.

∙ Ongoing pothole repair.

∙ Ongoing sweeping.

∙ Completed locates.

∙ Ongoing work on Kansas shoulders.

∙ Ongoing alley grading.

Public Transit:

∙ 857 riders this week.

Landfill:

∙ 127 customers this week.

∙ 203 tons of refuse this week.

∙ Ran burn box.

∙ Moved bales.

∙ Completed transfer station repairs.

∙ Ongoing scraper repairs.

∙ Ongoing maintenance.

Airport:

∙ Training of new employee continues.

∙ Passenger counts for January were 309 enplaned and 279 deplaned.

∙ Warehouse and Hangar inspections both complete. Both of these items will be done annually and help with creating a long-term maintenance plan.

∙ Staff participated in monthly ARFF training.

∙ Replaced block heater on ARFF generator.

∙ Tractor purchase work continues. Hoping to see this on agenda soon.

∙ Working on capital budget for City and FAA.

∙ Annual required trainings for the next 6 months being scheduled and prepared.

∙ Updates to Airport Certification Manual (FAA) and Airport Security Plan (TSA) are started. ∙ Research started for a future Airport Layout Plan document. Very similar to a strategic plan process for airport property.

Electric:

∙ We continue making progress on the three phase rebuild project on CR 55 south of Rock Road. ∙ Monday had a squirrel-caused outage on Laramie/Cheyenne alley.

∙ Assisted InAlert personnel working on PD cameras.

∙ Installed new service wires for service upgrade on Black Hills.

∙ Replaced/repaired tree caused damage to streetlight circuit on Big Horn.

∙ Repaired/replaced numerous streetlights.

∙ Framing and setting poles on three phase rebuild project on CR 58 south of Homestead Addition. ∙ Assisted electrician with issues in Tower Plaza.

∙ Assisted electrician with issues at Grand Lake South.

∙ Energized construction power service at Westco building site.

∙ Installed new service wires for service upgrade on Platte Ave.

Chamber:

∙ We are planning to have our first initial Heritage Days Committee meeting next week on the 14th 2pm at the Chamber Office, if you know anyone who is passionate about Heritage Days, let them know that we are always welcoming to new committee members and volunteers.

∙ The Chamber is receiving many renewals and thank you’s will be going out to our member roster.

∙ Golden Hour and Westside Event Center have some events planned coming up and the Arts Council is having a performance on the 16th at 7pm.

∙ As always, if you have an event coming up that needs promotion, please contact the Chamber. Accounting and Finance:

∙ Processed payroll.

∙ Paid all approved Council claims

∙ Attended EAC committee meeting.

∙ Attended IT quarterly meeting.

∙ Attended Department Leader Team meeting.

Utility Billing:

∙ 12 new residential accounts opened.

∙ Cycle 1 Billing sent.

∙ Cycle 3 payment reminders sent.

Fire:

∙ Hosted the Panhandle PET (Planning, Exercise, and Training) Region meeting at the fire station. ∙ Staff participated in a records management system demonstration.

∙ Work continues with the upper bathroom remodel.

∙ Staff participated in a webinar titled “Your Membership Cannot Meet the Call Volume Requirements”.

∙ Staff attended the Pine Ridge Mutal Aid Association meeting in Chadron.

∙ Monthly ARFF drill conducted.

Knight Museum:

∙ Recently hosted an information session with UNL and Farm Credit Services. ∙ Game and Parks held meetings in our conference room.

∙ Scrapbooking was held in the basement.

∙ Our local “Sandhillers” group met in the conference room.

Parks:

∙ Finished picking up the leaves at the 9th street tennis courts.

∙ Cleared pine needles off the 18th street tennis courts.

∙ Picked up grass piles on 1st street at Bower field.

∙ Continued servicing mowers and summer equipment.

∙ Met with the Jirdon rep about fertilizer and herbicide.

∙ Finished the deck switchover on the Hustler mower and reinstalled the deck. ∙ Performed online Pesticide Applicator License training.

∙ Reinstalled the swing bar and swings at the Jaycee Mini Park playground.

Senior Center:

∙ Interviews were held for open positions at the Senior Center.

∙ Distributed food boxes to the community.

∙ 27 volunteers assisted the public this week.

Library:

∙ There will be some great contests, displays, and items for sale in the bookstore that will be Spring themed! Also, Luck of the Irish is coming up, which is a patron favorite! We will once again be giving away a hotel stay and dinner in Deadwood. Watch for details! This annual fun is, as always, sponsored by the Alliance Public Library Foundation.

∙ Children’s Librarian Cynthia Horn performed Outreach visits with three Head Start classrooms this week. She also hosted a Valentine Box event with Keep Alliance Beautiful that had over 50 participants, held two Story Time sessions featuring Friendship, hosted LEGO Club, and the We Love Stuffies event Friday afternoon! Cynthia also organized the Book Mobile and backpacks, cataloged new items, and designed upcoming Story Time crafts.

∙ Technical Services Librarian Emily Nelson finished the Director’s Report for January and posted it to the website. She also ordered interlibrary loans and book club kits for upcoming book clubs, made Bookmobile deliveries, and assisted patrons with computer and Libby questions.

∙ Adult Services Librarian Nalani Stewart hosted Fiber Arts Club, changed out library displays for new holidays, prepared books for the Blind Date with a Book contest, and hosted the book club at Highland Park Care Center.

∙ Library Clerks Pam Becker and Stephanie Hamilton have been busy handling the high volume of visitors we have had to the library this week. On Tuesday alone we had over 150 visitors in the library!

Tourism:

∙ Attended the Nebraska Tourism Summit Conference in Lincoln.

∙ Implemented Datafy, look out for reports full of visitor data soon.

Administration:

∙ Personnel issues
