Reflections for the Week of Jan. 22-26

Electric:

∙ We continue to make progress on the line rebuild south of Rock Road and CR 55.

∙ All department personnel attended monthly NECC Safety Meeting.

∙ Repaired/replaced several streetlights.

∙ Two department personnel demonstrated underground electric line locating for WNCC Line School students.

∙ Ordering parts and finalizing plans for Solar Field line build.

Accounting and Finance:

∙ Processed payroll.

∙ Met with RSVP Director.

∙ Submitted IT service tickets.

∙ Submitted Audit requests.

∙ Submitted Grant paperwork.

∙ Provided Transit Audit information requested.

∙ Submitted Transit Invoice for reimbursement.

Utility office:

∙ 6 new residential accounts opened.

∙ Cycle 3 bills sent.

∙ Cycle 1 reminder notices sent.

Chamber:

∙ Our Annual Banquet was quite nice, despite the weather and the food was (as always) very delicious, thank you all who came out!

∙ The Chamber is gearing up for Spring and with that, the Heritage Days Committee and Ambassador program are reaching out to individuals in the community who would like to participate on a committee. The valued feedback from the town only helps us to get a sense of direction on how they would like events to look and feel. Initial 2024 meetings will start shortly!

HR:

∙ Conducting pre-employment screening and applicant testing for open positions; assisting candidates with the application process and schedule interviews.

∙ Contacting past seasonal employees in preparation for potential rehires for the 2024 Season. ∙ Assisting employees and department supervisors with requests.

∙ Reviewing compliance information for required reports for FTA drug and alcohol testing program.

∙ Preparing for Civil Service Commission Meeting and Police Department Interviews to be held February 12, 2024.

Fire:

∙ Work continues on the upper restroom remodel project.

∙ Chief participated in a Microsoft Teams Meeting with QuickMed Claims reference billing. ∙ Staff participated in an ER/ICU/Trauma meeting with BBGH.

Water/Sewer:

∙ Repaired broken plumbing at Elkhorn well.

∙ Assisted troubleshooting for Bruce Furniture sewer backup with camera work. ∙ Jetted Bruce Furniture sewer main.

∙ Replaced high pressure hose on Vactor.

∙ Jetted Sewer on 3rd and Ramblin Rd.

∙ Collected weekly water samples and chlorine residuals.

∙ Completed 21 utility office work orders.

∙ Completed 4 locates.

∙ Cleaned and dried Elkhorn well after pipe burst.

∙ Removed and ordered new booster pump after catastrophic failure.

Streets:

∙ Serviced five vehicles.

∙ Put new oil drums in inventory.

∙ Hauled millings to landfill for driveway work.

∙ Repaired broken plow.

∙ Installed plow lights on truck.

∙ Cleaned slice out of trucks.

∙ Wash and wax trucks.

∙ Move ice from drains and in heavy locations throughout town.

Public Transit:

∙ 796 riders this week.

Landfill:

∙ 204 tons of refuse this week.

∙ 120 customers this week.

∙ Ran burn box.

∙ Moved bales.

∙ Trommel repairs.

∙ Rearranged compost area.

∙ Bailer repairs.

Senior Center:

∙ There were 20 RSVP volunteers assisting with various activities in the community this week.

∙ The Senior Center received a donation of two recliners from Box Butte General Hospital. This additional comfortable seating will be great for Movie afternoons!

∙ Golden Age donated a fridge and some new tables to the Senior Center. A big thank you to Golden Age for these items and for their continued support of the center!

∙ Meals were prepared for dine in and delivery for our community seniors.

∙ Also a big thank you to members of the community who donated funds to purchase lemonade and coffee for the center. Your support is appreciated!

Museum:

∙ Our last two projects for our new display space are in and ready to be filled. Watch for the grand opening in mid-February.

∙ We are in the process of finalizing plans to host a speaker for a program on beginning DNA research. If you are interested, please call and let Becci or Jodi know.

∙ The February Scrapbook Group will meet on February 2nd & 3rd. Sign up for notifications on our Museum Scrappers page. Don’t leave your kids with boxes of unknown photos, learn how to turn them in to a legacy!

∙ Assisted several local individuals with family history research.

∙ We hosted a workshop for the Nebraska Extension office.

∙ If you have questions about genealogy or local businesses from Alliance, we encourage to stop in to our Heritage room and check out all of the available information.

Golf:

∙ Equipment repairs and service continue in preparation for spring.

∙ Making plans to get greens watered next week if temperatures reach the levels that are forecasted.

∙ Inventory is arriving for the 2024 golf season so the pro shop will be filling up with new items.

Library:

∙ The “Blind Date with a Book” contest is in full swing. Read any of our Mystery Date books to get entered into a drawing for a dinner for two at Ken and Dale’s and a movie at Alliance Theater!

∙ Children’s Librarian Cynthia Horn held Story Time featuring Feelings and made contacts with local restaurants for Summer Reading prizes. She also organized the Book Mobile deliveries, updated displays, maintained backpacks and cataloged new items.

∙ Technical Services Librarian Emily Nelson updated the Facebook/Instagram pages and website with the many new programs we have coming up in February. She also processed interlibrary loans for the two new library book clubs, two private book clubs, and several patrons. Stephanie also assisted patrons on the computers and made the weekly Bookmobile deliveries.

∙ Adult Services Librarian Nalani Stewart hosted the APL Book Club, Fiber Arts Club, and the book club at Highland Park Care Center. She also cataloged new materials, and prepared books for the Blind Date with a Book Contest.

∙ Library Clerks Pam Becker and Stephanie Hamilton have been busy adding new accounts and helping with contests and upcoming fundraising projects!

Parks:

∙ Prepared for and worked two funerals.

∙ Assisted the Senior Center with a cleanup project.

∙ Pushed back all of the large snow drifts along the trail to keep it from melting and causing ice.

∙ Applied ice melt and removed ice from the trail as necessary.

∙ Removed ice from some parking areas around City buildings.

∙ Completed servicing of the pickups.

∙ Covered the fountain pedestal to protect it for the remainder of winter.

∙ Picked up the new deck for the 72″ Hustler mower and started the switchover of parts. Administration:

∙ Multiple personnel issues

∙ Reviewed candidates for the Police Chief position.

∙ Attended and presented at the Activate Alliance community meeting

∙ Participated in the kickoff webinar for the Safe Streets For All (SS4A) grant which the City received in December 2023. This planning grant will help the City identify pedestrian needs.

∙ Completed preliminary environmental review for the Nebraska Game and Parks for the playground grant. This grant will help replace aging playground equipment at Central Park located next to the Museum.

∙ Worked on a janitorial bid packet for the City Hall building.
