Notable Service:
• Officer Buskirk and Officer Gomez completed Field Training and are now patrolling on their own.
• Officers caught a burglary in progress at Dobby’s – All items were recovered and returned!
Electric:
• Finished the alley rebuild west of High School from 14th to 16th Street.
• Performed maintenance on the alley south of 3rd street between Laramie and Cheyenne in preparation for providing the new Platte Valley Bank with service.
• Numerous street lights were upgraded to new LED fixtures.
• Performed load management on irrigation wells.
• Started a maintenance project on Box Butte Ave from 16th to 18th Street.
Fire:
• Completed two full days of training on our new FTS Training Facility last Saturday and Sunday.
• Continued to provide ISO requested information and documentation for our PPC survey.
RSVP & Senior Center:
• The Senior Center Roof replacement is being advertised for bids.
Golf:
• Made preparations for the glow golf tournament this weekend.
• Play continued to be steady-especially when the weather cooperated.
• Repaired lightning damage to irrigation components.
Parks:
• Prepared for two funerals to be held on Friday and Saturday.
• Crews finished thinning and removing brush from the creek at Central Park. Removed broken concrete from wall drainage ditch at Bandshell.
• Painted trim on the well house at BN ballfield.
• Sprayed weeds at Central Park, tennis courts, Bandshell, Knight Park, and BN ballfield.
• Started the second mowing on empty city lots. Mowed water towers. Normal weeding and trimming of park areas.
• Swept and vacuumed fountain.
• Cleaned debris from storm drains after heavy rains.
• Removed spray foam vandalism from Laing men’s bathroom door.
• Removed dead trees from library flower beds.
Library:
• Emily Nelson hosted the Library Book Club this week, with 17 in attendance. They discussed the book “Sooley” by John Grisham. The next meeting will be Tuesday, August 23rd at 1:00 p.m. and we will be discussing “The Silent Patient” by Alex Michaelides. The APL Bookclub meets every fourth Tuesday of the month in the Community Rooms of the library. Everyone is welcome to attend, and copies of the book are available at the library’s circulation desk.
• The Demogorgon is up and ready for all the Stranger Things fans out there to come in and take a look! The books are flying off the shelves, so come up and get one before they are gone! Kudos to Nalani Stewart on a job well done with this program!
• Cynthia Horn has been busy reorganizing the children’s and juvenile section of the library. She is preparing some great Storytime themes for the year, so come up and enroll your 3-6-year-old.
• The Clerks have been working on a Back-to-School display. We have many books in our collection for those beginning kindergarten to help ease them into their new roles as students! We are thankful to Pam and Kris for all they do to make the circulation area of the library look terrific.
• Stephanie, Kris, and Nalani, along with APL board members Maxine Anderson and Donna Frisch attended the Western Library System’s annual meeting last week.
BBDC:
• This was the final week hosting Rural Fellows Elizabeth & Landyn, who will be back for a community meeting to be held September 22 with UNL Placemaking Professors.
• UNMC Intern Eric will be presenting to the ARC Summer Camp kids Tuesday on “Emergency Pet Preparedness”. Eric will also have a booth at National Night Out.
• We are up against the final days of the month of July sock drive. You can drop off new, clean socks at the Alliance Recreation Center, Box Butte Development Corporation offices, Panhandle Public Health District, or at the Body Shop in Hemingford).
• Consulted with talent attraction software/web company, “MakeMyMove” to talk about showcasing Alliance and Hemingford.
• Attended Ribbon Cutting at CBA Speech Solutions downtown.
• We have been assisting Hemingford to start an Investment Club.
• Attended the “Housing & Homelessness” Conference in Alliance.
• BBDC Office Closed August 8-12 for Vacation and Fair. There will be no Perfect Blend held in the month of August.
