REFLECTIONS FOR THE WEEK OF JULY 26-30, 2021

Library:

• Programming for Fall fundraisers, events and after-school activities. We hope to have some great computer coding options for all grade levels.

• The theme for the next few weeks in the Library will be “Back to School”. We are creating some great displays focusing on how the Library can play a vital role in the success of students.

• We are happy to welcome Camden Wade as our new Library Page!

• The Library book club met this week with a great turnout! The book for next time is “Four Winds” by Kristen Hannah. Everyone is invited to attend!

Parks:

• Staff started applying summer fertilizer, to be finished next week.

• Completed a final mow and trim at the Cemetery while we still have seasonal staff.

• Continued working on irrigation systems to improve coverage and efficiency.

Pool:

• Swim lessons finished this week.

• Open swim at Big Blue Bay will end on August 8, with morning and evening lap swim continuing until the 13th.

Museum:

• Staff worked on repainting walls in the gallery and meeting room spaces this week. The touch up looks great and covers the years of wear in the gallery.

• Continued to assist class reunions and individuals with research in the Heritage room.

RSVP & Senior Center:

• Assisted with cooking and serving meals while the cook was off work.

• Hosted several activities in the center.

Police:

• Department-wide meeting discussing Mission, Values and Vision.

• Motorola Radio install update: Antennas are in, grounding is complete, and consoles will be installed in the coming weeks.

• All officers attended Range training.

• The Department is preparing for National Night Out to be held on August 3rd at Central Park (5 pm- 8pm)

Finance:

• May Sales Tax Revenue totaled $194,018.24 which is more than 15% higher than the previous record month.

• Budget was compiled for upcoming public comment and council review/approval.

Electric:

• Performed load control on irrigation wells throughout the week.

• Continues to resolve storm-related issues to street lights on a daily basis.

• Resolved multiple squirrel/bird caused outages.

Fire:

• Five Alliance Firefighters successfully passed their Firefighter 1 practical skills exam with the State Fire Marshal training division on Sunday! Next step in certification process is Hazardous Materials Operations Level Responder, which is scheduled to begin in October.

Chamber:

• The Chamber Ambassadors presented the August Spotlight Business to Koke’s NAPA.

Public Works:

• Concrete repair on Platte and 6th.

• Completed tree pickup from the July 9th storm.

• Continue with seasonal maintenance including street sweeping, sewer jetting, pothole repair and gravel road grading.

• The new Public Works –Street and Transit building continues its progress with roofing, interior framing and a concrete pad pour scheduled for next week.

Landfill:

• Dirt cover progressing on the north slope of municipal solid waste.

• Burn box is in operation for wood materials and the trommel is in operation creating compost.

BBDC:

• Assisted a new business prospect in both Alliance & Hemingford.

• Roofing and hail damage companies are seeking office space. Contact BBDC to make a connection.

• Explored a new potential funding tool for area through Advantage Capital.

• Assisted the Hemingford Chamber with finding volunteers to donate/work the Diorama Food Booth at Fair next week.

• Letter of Support submitted for Post Playhouse Tourism Grant.

• Letter of Support submitted for proposed City Trail Project.

• Gave community tour today on behalf of BBGH to a prospective physician recruit.

• Aug 25th-27th – NEDA Annual Conference in Sidney, BBDC office will be closed

• Aug 31st – Flit It! Free Workshop in McCook, geared around CRA Redevelopment Projects

Community Development:

• Continues with roofing contractor licensing, issuing roofing permits, and performing roofing inspections stemming from the July 9th storms.

• The house at 716 Big Horn has been razed, the lot leveled and compacted to City requirements.

Airport:

• Twin City Roofing has completed work on 3 buildings damaged during the 2020 hail storm.

• City was notified that the NDOT Taxiway and Apron projects will be proceeding in the Spring or Summer of 2022 following permission from the Federal Aviation Administration this week. This is very good news as the project needs done badly.
