Human Resources:

∙ Addressing employee inquiries and assisting with benefits.

∙ Developing job descriptions and postings, screening and interviewing applicants, and coordinating onboarding processes for new hires.

∙ Reviewing and updating HR policies and practices to ensure compliance with labor laws while enhancing the employee experience.

∙ Managing employee benefit programs and assisting with benefit enrollment. HR Director Carla Mayhew has been working with our broker on the City’s Insurance renewal, ensuring benefits are competitive and affordable for the City of Alliance.

Airport:

∙ Water testing for the terminal completed.

∙ Finished and submitted required updates to the Airport Security Plan. This update addresses Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS).

∙ Haying of the airfield continues.

∙ Maintenance staff mowed/weed eat the terminal area, Taxiways, Weather Service building area, and chevrons on the airfield.

∙ Sprayed weeds around terminal, warehouse area, and impound lot.

∙ Washed dump truck.

∙ Wildlife control will continue to be a weekly focus of staff.

∙ Airport staff attended the educational prairie dog meeting hosted by Box Butte and Sheridan County

Community Development:

∙ 9 Building Permits issued for a total estimated improvement value of $2,468,658.71.

∙ 5 Zoning Permits issued for a total estimated improvement value of $16,208.

∙ 13 Plumbing and Mechanical Permits.

∙ 6 Right of Way Excavation, Construction, and Obstruction Permits.

∙ Issued the building permit for Daylight Donuts build out in the Williams Jewelers building.

∙ Issued the building permit for the new Consumers Coop Credit Union at 3rd and Cody.

∙ Sent the month-end permitting summary to the Box Butte County Assessor.

∙ No July Planning Commission or Board of Adjustment meetings due to lack of agenda items.

Facilities Maintenance:

∙ 16 Facilities Maintenance Work order requests generated by staff.

∙ 25 additional work orders generated while on site working on requested projects.

∙ Refurbished an old parks flatbed trailer to haul around the nuisance abatement mowing equipment.

Nuisance abatement:

∙ Started working on intersection vision violations around schools.

∙ Assisted with Building Inspections.

Parks:

∙ Picked up repaired fountain pumps and installed them in the mechanical pit, and we are now waiting on the control boards to be installed. Thoroughly cleaned the fountain basin because filtration was off while the pumps were being repaired. The fountain should be up and running soon!

∙ Park staff and community volunteers worked with direction from the Nebraska Forest Service to start an inventory of all trees currently growing in Alliance parks. ∙ Continued mowing and trimming all park areas as necessary

∙ Worked two funerals this week.

Golf:

∙ Maintenance staff is working on the course to get it ready for the Iron Horse Scramble this Friday, Saturday and Sunday

∙ Staff aerated the front nine on Monday and the back nine on Tuesday this week.

∙ Course has had steady play

RSVP & Senior Center:

∙ RSVP had 12 volunteers in the community this week assisting at various activities and events.

∙ The Nutrition site served over 1,200 meals in the month of July

∙ Staff is thrilled to have help with the filling of the Nutrition Driver position

∙ Senior Center hosted Bingo, several card parties, Bunco and coffee and treats. Museum:

∙ We have hosted two local meetings including the prairie dog informational workshop.

∙ Life Line Screening held their semi-annual clinic this week in the basement.

∙ Did you ever say to yourself, “I wish we had more hats!” Well someone here must have

ask that and now here we are in the middle of inventory, cleaning and repair of our hat collection. Next up is our clothing…wow!

∙ The Newberry Gift shop has a new selection of gifts, books and t-shirts. Check us out for your souvenirs.

Library

∙ This week was one of continuing education for the librarians! United for Libraries in conjunction with the ALA presented three days of webinars staff members participated in. Focused on author presentations, fundraising, and the latest in library operations, the group took away many innovative ideas with hopes of implementing them into APL.

∙ Children’s Librarian Cynthia Horn organized the Book Mobile items, updated window and book displays, did collection inventory, cataloged new items, and did backpack maintenance. She also attended the three day United for Libraries 2024 webinars.

∙ Adult Services Librarian Nalani Stewart cataloged new materials, prepared for Adult programs in August, and hosted the book club at Highland Park Care Center. She also attended the United for Libraries Virtual Conference, pulled older books off of the new shelves, and prepared the stats for the Director’s report.

∙ Technical Services Librarian Emily Nelson processed interlibrary loans for patrons and book clubs, made weekly bookmobile deliveries, and updated our website and social media pages. She also attended the IT Advisory meeting and some of the ALA United for Libraries Virtual training sessions. I prepared the July statistics for the July Director’s report.

∙ Library Clerks Pam Becker and Stephanie Hamilton held down the circulation desk all week while the librarians were attending webinars. Staff attendance in these programs would not be possible without the efforts of these two gals!

Fire:

∙ The Nebraska Fire Marshal Training Division conducted the final testing for the driver/operator certification course on Sunday, July 28th. Alliance had nine firefighters test, Bridgeport had two, and Hemingford had two. We are now awaiting the results of the testing.

∙ Career staff meeting held Thursday morning.

∙ July was our busiest month so far this year. 130 calls for service.

Police:

∙ Met with Alliance Public Schools about reinstatement of SRO beginning this month. ∙ Attended IT meeting

∙ Attended Coffee and Treats at the Senior Center

∙ Final rechecks and adjustments on FY25 operating budget

∙ Worked with Bytes to prepare for AT&T booster install
