Police:

Water/Sewer:

 23 locates; 35 work orders

 26,000 feet of sewer jetted

 Read cycle 2 radios

 Took water samples; Collected chlorine residuals

 Repaired chlorine leak at Elkhorn

 1 meter change out

 Delivered copper and lead sample results to customers

 Powertech finished installing new generator at C-station

 Located lots in Homestead Subdivision

 Removed sump pump at “D” station for repair

Streets:

 23 locates

 Swept Kansas for painting; Swept streets from 4th of July

 Tear out and replace curb on 7th and Box Butte

 Attended meeting for Heritage Days

 Unloaded truck for senior center

 Set up barricades for Bands on the Bricks

 Repaired washed out alleys

 Cleaned drains and cleared branches

Landfill:

 234 customers; 259.88 tons of refuse this week

 Ran burn box

 Performed periodic maintenance on equipment

 Completed CDL testing

Electric:

 Started the overhead to underground electric line conversion on Burnham Drive/West 21st street alley

 Installed new primary underground, transformer and related equipment at JCC on CR 58

 Performed irrigation load control as needed

 Working with Sandhills Solar to finish testing of solar site to enable connecting it into our electric grid

 Performed maintenance on substation buildings

 Inspected and unlocked electrical enclosures on Box Butte for Bands on the Bricks

 Submitted initial 2026 budget

 Worked with Electricians on two service upgrades on residences

Human Resources:

 HR department is conducting our Employee Pulse Survey. This survey is designed to gather employee sentiment in several areas including organizational vision and goals, culture, leadership, employee engagement, work-life balance, and job satisfaction. The results of these ongoing efforts assist our management team in creating action plans and strategies to improve the workplace and make our services more effective for our community.

 Assisting departments and employees with legal compliance.

 Administering drug and alcohol testing programs following FMCSA and FTA policies and regulations.

 Conducting Pre-employment conditions for applicants in the Police Department, Electric Department and Water/Sewer Department.

 Enrolling eligible employees in including medical, dental, vision, retirement, and vacation leave benefits.

 Scheduling and conducting interviews for open positions.

 Staff participated in the All-employee quarterly huddle where we discussed benefits available to employees for the 2025 Calendar Year.

 Scheduling and completing onboarding and orientation for new employees. The City is pleased to announce newly hired employees Mason Trumble and Carolyn Hamel who have joined the staff at the Library. Welcome to the City!

Community Development:

 No Planning Commission or Board of Adjustment Meetings in June due to lack of agenda items.

 Issued a Certificate of Occupancy for Consumers Cooperative Credit Union at 1301 West 3rd.

 Contractors are working on the final finishing work at the WNCC Line School classroom expansion at 1621 East Kansas.

 Issued a building permit for the construction of a new Nebraska Game and Parks office building at 299 Husker Rd.

 Attended a meeting of “All Aboard Northwest” discussing their mission to bring Amtrak service to Rapid City through South Dakota and the Panhandle of Nebraska.

 Ran additional network cabling at RSVP/Senior Center completing the ELAN to VPN speed upgrade project.

 Permits Issued in June

o 11 – Building Permits issued for a total estimated improvement value of $100,607. o 4 – Zoning Permits issued for a total estimated improvement value of $14,450. o 12 – Plumbing and Mechanical Permits. o 4 – Right of Way Construction, Excavation, or Obstruction Permits.

 Nuisance Abatement

o 101 new Nuisance Abatement Contacts.

o Resolved Nuisance issues.

 Facilities Maintenance

o 25 New Facilities Maintenance Work Orders

Airport:

 Budget submitted to Finance.

 Phone conference call with a company out of Grand Island regarding fuel farm potential upgrades and a possible repair item. Hoping to meet with them in person next week.

 Preliminary work started on Title VI program.

 FBO drain repair was completed this week.

 Wayne participated in new foam training in Casper. Thank you to the fire department for including him.

 Warranty work for some minor painting items is scheduled for next week. Met with engineers to figure out timing of this repair and notified main users of airport.

 Maintenance staff sprayed airport property areas for bindweed. Thank you to parks department for the use of the gator.

 Mowing of the VOR, windsocks, Runway 17 approach, sewer lake road, and perimeter fence was completed.

 Staff read water meters.

 Conducted regular fence inspection and ARFF truck inspections.

 Dragging of prairie dog mounds on grazing land continues along with wildlife control. Accounting and Finance:

Utilities Billing Services:

RSVP & Senior Center:

 Coordinated volunteers to assist with selling Heritage Days tickets

 Registered ten new Youth Volunteers and two new RSVP volunteers this week.

 Continued providing dine-in and delivery meals

 Hosted several card parties, Coffee & Treats, and Bunco

Museum:

 The traveling art exhibit will remain on display until July 30th.

 Staff assisted with set up for the employee Huddle this week

 The Railroad used the basement to host an employee picnic

 The Sandhillers history group met in the conference room and shared stories from the area.

 Continued digitizing court records from Box Butte County.

Library:

 We have assembled the Blackstone Griddle purchased by the Alliance Public Library Foundation and have it on display. It is ready for one lucky patron to win! To enter patrons need to complete a 5-punch library checkout card and turn it back in. We will draw one weekly winner for a prize from the bookstore, and all entries then go into the grand prize drawing for the Blackstone August 1st.

 Children’s Librarian Cynthia Horn’s highlights for July 7-11 included KCOW announcements, finishing Stats for Summer Reading, sharing “Under the Alliance Night Sky” thank-yous, and collecting items for Book Mobile. Her ongoing projects include cataloging new items, maintaining backpacks, and preparing upcoming Story Time themes. Cynthia also added a new Wiggleworm feature to the website featuring “What’s New?”.

 Technical Services Librarian Mason Trumble has been working on signage for the library. He has also been busy creating event information slides and helping the rest of the staff with displays. Mason is beginning his work on his Librarian Certification with the Nebraska Library Commission next month.

 Adult Services Librarian Stephanie Hamilton will also be beginning her certification classes next month. Steph maintained and made additions to book displays for the adult summer reading program and wrote press releases promoting the program. She shelf read and shelved books, and attended the Huddle with other library staff. Stephanie also delivered books to Highland Park Care Center and Assisted Living Center.

 Library Clerk Pam Becker was joined in her role as Library Clerk by new hire Carolyn Hamel. Pam will be busy training Carolyn to make sure her transition into her new position goes as smoothly as possible. Pam will be a great role model for her, and we are excited to see what Carolyn will bring to the position!

Golf:

 Continued with course maintenance and preparing for weekend tournaments  The diver was in the lake to remove golf balls as necessary to protect the irritation system

 Play continued to be consistent as the weather conditions were great!

Administration:
