Reflections for the Week of July 8-12

Electric:

 With assistance from the Alliance Police Department for traffic control, we installed power line wires across Highway 385 to complete new 3 phase service for cement plant on S 385; Installed electric meter and energized cement plant service

 Installed meter and energized new 3 phase service for Walther Potato facility on Valley Road

 Performed load control on irrigation wells to control peak power usage

 Hauled poles and started framing for 3 phase rebuild project in Berea

 Assisted contractor with installation of new equipment at Cody generation plant

 Performed load switching for testing of new equipment at Cody substation

 Performed maintenance on several irrigation well transformer banks

 Installed several new LED streetlights

 Installed temporary power rack on 2nd street for Heritage Days carnival workers campers

 Performed maintenance on electrical equipment on Box Butte Avenue in preparation of Heritage Days

Accounting and Finance:

 Attended Budget Workshop

 Processed payroll

 Attended leadership webinar

Utilities Billing Services:

 Cycle 1 and Cycle 2 bills mailed

 Cycle 3 and Cycle 4 reminder notices mailed

 Nine new residential accounts created; One new irrigation account created

Landfill:

Water/Sewer:

 Worked on 100 hp motor at sewer lake

 Pulled pump and check valve at “B” station

 Installed new radios at pump station and RTU’s for sewer pivots

 Installed new 4” meter at apartment building

 Worked on “A” station generator

 Changed chlorine pump at Elkhorn well

 Changed battery backup at sewer lake

 Completed weekly water samples, repeat samples

 Jetted 27485 feet of sanitary sewer

 Installed 26 radios

 10 utility office work orders

Streets:

Police:

 Reviewed and finalized plans for Heritage Days Parade

 Assisted Electric with traffic control for 385 project

 Parker worked with Purple Wave to take videos and photos of vehicles being placed on the auction site

 Kirsten is overseeing several improvements in dispatch including updating our battery backup systems, new headsets, console alert tone installation as well as ongoing software updates and improvements.

Fire:

 Chief participated in a Zoom Meeting with UNMC on a potential Firefighter Cancer research project.

 Asst. Chief meet with BBGH Trauma Nurse Coordinator on trauma related runs.

 Work progressing on bathroom remodel.

 Department-wide meeting held.

 Career Staff meeting held.

 Responded to commercial structure fire.

Airport:

 Seal Coat Runway 12/30 & 8/26 Project – The grant for this project has been accepted and contracts are out for signature. Waiting to hear when this will be scheduled to begin.

 Airfield Electrical Project – Participated in multiple discussions in regards to the scope of this project. We will receive an engineer agreement once we finalize the scope.

 Placed the airfield paint and bead order. Maintenance plans to paint all of Runway 17/35 and chevrons which indicate abandoned surface.

 Continued working with Denver Air Connection regarding rental cars. Lease agreement will be on council agenda next week. This is not only great for the airport but the entire community.

 Working on finalizing the specific type of doors needed and getting updated quotes for the airline loading doors and one of the checkpoint doors.

 Finalized plans and scheduled the fuel farm berm refurbish.

 Non-Movement training conducted for the staff and haying crew. The haying of the airfield began on Tuesday.

 Started reviewing the terminal grant application for updates before submission by the end of the month.

 Maintenance staff prepared for the representative from Purple Wave to be here this week. The C-90 tractor and an ARFF skid will be items listed from the airport.

 Spraying of weeds was the focus of maintenance staff. They sprayed the shoulders of taxiways, Runway 8/26, and Runway 17/35. Sprayed all hangar concrete areas and all chevrons on the airfield.

Human Resources:

 Assisting employees and departments with FMLA leave

 Onboarding and meeting with new employees

 Processing employee changes including evaluations, wages, benefits and employment status updates

 Administering required Drug and Alcohol testing in compliance with DOT for FMCSA and FTA Drug Programs

 Scheduling and conducting interviews with applicants for open positions

Museum:

 We hosted a book signing for Val Vierk’s new book “Sailing the Troubled Sea- A Nebraska Boy goes to war”, a story about Herbert Nolda, brother of Virgil Nolda of Alliance and their military memories. This is available in the Newberry Gift Shop at the Museum. The Newberry Gift shop is also brimming with Alliance, Carhenge and Nebraska Souvenirs – Stop by and check it out!

 Bailey Johnson is diligently working on a new “critter” for our collection. This should be ready in a week or so, be watching for his unveiling, it will be a “mooooving” exhibit!

 Our blow out inventory palooza is nearing the end, at least we can see the end in sight. Many new items will soon be finding their way into our permanent exhibits.

 The Passport visitors have exceeded our expectations and we have received so many compliments that we are permanently blushing.

Golf:

 Hosted the Member Guest tournament on Saturday. The course was in great shape and attendance was great.

 Staff is preparing for the Team up for a Cure Tournament this weekend.

 Regular play continues to be strong and the course is in great shape!

Library:

 Staff started a DVD reorganization project, put up a new book display, processed ILLs, and updated our website and social media pages. Also hosted the Monday Night Mystery book club and the book club at Highland Park Care Center.

 The Children’s librarian started reorganizing and shelf reading the kids section and hosted Lego Club.

 Staff is making plans for a major move on the library floor that will include the DVD’s, Juvenile Fiction, and Juvenile Non-fiction. This will include moving all of the books/materials in all of these sections. These changes will allow for more common quiet reading spaces near the front of the library with the addition of reading and relaxing furniture.

RSVP & Senior Center:

 Staff provided dine-in and delivery meals for area seniors this week.

 RSVP had 17 Volunteers in the community assisting with different projects and programs.

 The Senior Center hosted a card party, bingo, movie, and Friday coffee with treats this week.

Parks:

 Mowed all park areas and ballfields twice as usual

 Staff completed one funeral

 Started trimming trees and shrubs along Stadium Trail

 Trimmed around fences and headstones at the cemetery again

 Collected grass clippings as necessary in parks and ballfields

 Started mowing vacant lots in the north part of town again

 Vacuumed the fountain

 Continued working on irrigation as dry spots show up with the warmer temperatures.

Administration:

 FY25 Budget preparation work continues and included a budget workshop on July 9th

 Insurance renewal meeting with FNIC

 Class C Liquor License Renewals were sent out

 Preparations for the July 16th City Council Meeting
