Electric:
∙ Continue to make progress on the solar field line build. Attended Sandhills Energy solar field groundbreaking ceremony
∙ Completed line extension on CR 63 south of Madison.
∙ Attended monthly NECC safety meeting.
∙ Participated in 2025 budget workshop with Council and City staff.
∙ Disconnected a house service on Big Horn for local tree trimmer to remove large tree in back yard.
∙ Removed streetlight wire on Missouri to allow tree trimmer to perform tree removal.
∙ High wind and rain on Thursday evening caused minor damage to streetlight circuit and one house service.
Fire:
∙ The majority of our week was spent on the Schiff Fire. Amazing support from our mutual aid partners, state partners, and the enormous amount of community support from local farmers, ranchers, and agricultural related businesses. There is just too many for me to list, but we appreciate all the help more than anyone knows. –Chief Shoemaker
∙ Chief attended the council budget meeting.
Library:
∙ Week 4 of the summer reading program wrapped up Friday, leaving one week to go! Winners of all three grand prizes will be announced the beginning of July. Again, a special thanks to the Alliance Public Library Foundation for this year’s awesome prizes! Once summer reading is over the staff will begin the processes of inventory management and shelf reading to put all the youth sections back together! Next will begin summer reading for adults in which the grand prize will be $150 in Chamber Bucks, once again courtesy of the Alliance Public Library Foundation.
∙ Children’s Librarian Cynthia Horn hosted Family LEGO Adventures and a Breakout Box Adventure featuring “Road Trip Rescue”. She also held Story Time Adventures featuring Sara Hicks with her grandmother’s Smokey Bear collection, Valeria Carrillo with The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and Dr. Christina Kloch with special music. 4th week check-ins with reading logs were happening this week with next week being our last week of Summer reading. Cynthia also did KCOW announcements, organized and delivered the Book Mobile, sent thank you cards, maintained backpacks and updated the website and book displays.
∙ Adult Services Librarian Nalani Stewart cataloged new materials, updated the website and social media pages, and processed ILLs. She also hosted the True Crime Book Club, AI presentation by Sam Stalos, and the book club at Highland Park Care Center.
∙ Library Clerks Stephanie Hamilton and Pam Becker have been extremely busy at the desk. These two have been amazing at keeping on top of all the new accounts the program has generated and maintaining the circulation of hundreds of books each week!
RSVP & Senior Center:
∙ RSVP had 12 volunteers in the community this week.
∙ Hosted Bingo, Coffee and Treats, Cards and Bunco
Parks:
∙ Mowed and trimmed all parks and sport fields as usual.
∙ Planted evergreen trees to cut down on wind damage at the swimming pool.
∙ Mowed the ARC Trail and West Laing Lake.
∙ Picked up tree branches after the storm.
∙ Moved picnic tables and trash containers after community events
∙ Worked on irrigation repairs at Laing Lake and Central Park.
∙ Planted trees and shrubs at the Library.
∙ Finished trimming the cemetery.
∙ Trimmed trees along the trail.
Water/Sewer:
∙ Completed 17 work orders.
∙ 22850 feet of sanitary sewer jetted.
∙ Fixed chlorine leaks at 25th and Elkhorn wells.
∙ Collected water samples and chlorine residuals.
∙ Transported damaged fire hydrant to shop for repairs.
∙ Changed brake pads on unit #1406.

∙ Fixed 2 broken drive shafts on sewer lagoon pivots.
Landfill:

Transit:

Streets:
∙ Worked on unit # 907 transmission.
∙ Replaced furl pump on unit #907.
∙ Ongoing street sweeping.
∙ Ongoing drain cleaning.
∙ Completed 17 locates.
∙ Cut, removed and replaced curb on Missouri.
∙ Replaced main broom on sweeper.
∙ Used the motorgrader and dump truck to clean weeds and streets.
∙ Pick up tree branches from storm.
Airport:
∙ FAA Inspection complete! With only two small discrepancies concerning fuel, we are proud of and thankful for all city staff that prepared for this arduous review. Huge thank you to Parks and Street department for helping the airport with the safety areas. We walked all the areas and filled holes or leveled mounds. It was a super long day but we couldn’t have finished it without all the help. FAA documents all submitted to inspector. The inspection was completed by the Central Region Lead Inspector, which is completed every three years. He stated that it was one of his best inspections this year to date. If you see Wayne or Dan please give them a pat on the back.
∙ Neo Electrical was on-site to do repairs to the MALSR and familiarize themselves to our system. Repairs were not all completed but Neo Electrical staff and FAA inspector did conduct the required inspection and noted the items that needed to be fixed. The five single flashers section of the MALSR is NOTAM out but all other parts are operational. Three of the five flashers are not working.
∙ Met with Denver Air Connection about car rentals. Hoping to have an agreement before Council very soon.
∙ Taxiway/Apron project update – re-painting of taxiways and aprons are scheduled to start Monday, June 24th. This should be the last part of this project and with good weather would be completed in one week’s time.
∙ Gopher plowing was completed by maintenance staff of all safety areas on the airfield. Some areas that were gopher plowed required staff to back drag from the plow to remain in FAA compliance.
∙ Oil change completed on tractor.
∙ Swept all airfield surfaces.
∙ Global ARFF completed the annual inspection of the ARFF truck at the airport.
∙ Annual fire extinguishers inspection was completed.
Administration:
∙ City Council regular meeting and budget workshop. As a follow-up to council meeting, presented on KCOW and held biweekly staff meeting.
∙ Along with Mayor McGhehey and Vice-Mayor Mashburn, attended the groundbreaking for the new solar energy field project.
∙ Met with Mayor McGhehey.
∙ Attended 10th and Flack pedestrian crossing project pre-construction meeting.
∙ FY25 Budget review and preparations for budget workshop.
∙ Prepared press releases and helped staff with projects, personnel issues, and other concerns.
