While no books were removed from this collection, they have been condensed to fit on fewer shelving units to open up space on the northeast section of the library. We are especially proud of our library pages Cam Wade, Ava Weingart, and Simmi Kaur who worked tirelessly in getting this done! The goal of this project is to create a tech friendly atmosphere where patrons can casually sit with their computers. This will be an environment focused on comfort and quiet, with a great view of the rose garden and seating to enjoy a coffee or iced tea, which staff is hoping to offer in the near future. Projects to upgrade the facility are still progressing, and preparations are being made for the APL Foundation to have a booth at the upcoming Farmer’s Market at the library, which begins Thursday, August 3rd!
• Children’s Librarian Cynthia Horn saw great attendance for Teamwork Around the World with Jordan Hooper, LEGO Club, Cooper & Friends Puppet Team, and Story Time! Sharing & Caring Story Time included guest readers, Kevin Horn, Dave Ocken and Shawna Rischling, plus special music by Sara Behrends with a Music Jam and dance breaks. Cynthia’s events next week include Family Game Night, a Humanities Nebraska presentation by Chris Sayre titled “Nebraska’s Musical Smorgasbord: Music from Various Ethnic Groups in Nebraska”, Youth Book Club with “Wonder” by R. J. Palacio, and the final week for reading goals. Cynthia also does KCOW announcements to share upcoming events, and updates book displays, website and Facebook posts. Her other projects include backpacks, cataloging new items and “All Together Now” thank you cards.
