Notable Service:

• Satisfaction rating 91.1%.

• A tremendous effort by Dispatch Supervisor Kirsten McCracken and thanks for all of her efforts coordinating software upgrades with our RMS and additional tasks this week.

• Dispatcher Hannah Gerth has made special efforts on the training manual, radio test, and CTO tests, and we thank her for her work.

Chamber of Commerce:

• Finalized Heritage Days plans. We feel confident we will have a successful event as always (weather permitted).

• The BID meeting went well and had a good turnout.

Community Development

• June Permits:

o 12 Building Permits for a total improvement value of $145,443.25

o 9 Zoning Permits for a total improvement value of $33,550

o 14 Plumbing and Mechanical Permits

o 2 Demolition Permits

o 2 Right of Way Obstruction, Construction, or Excavation Permits

• Dangerous Structure Abatement of 1730 Plains Street and 321 West 6th Street are complete. Both houses were demolished.

• No June Board of Adjustment or Planning Commission meetings were held due to lack of agenda items.

Electric:

• We have been replacing hardware and performing maintenance at various locations on our system. Replaced fuses and three meters on irrigation wells struck by lightning.

• Upgraded the primary service to a residence on Keith Road.

• Installed new poles and transformers at Deluxe Radiator to re-route service to avoid crossing adjacent property.

• Started a rebuild of service to KL Woods shop on Kansas street.

• Performed an extreme amount of locates related to fiber lines being installed in our rural system area.

• Removed server batteries from City Hall and packaged them for shipment.

Landfill:

• 306 customers this week.

• 467 tons of refuse this week.

• Placed dirt cover on 25% of C&D area.

• Moved and placed bales.

• Completed maintenance on equipment.

• Replaced 6 roll out containers. Replaced 3 dumpsters.

• Cleaned blowing trash from fence line. Cleaned debris from landfill road.

Streets:

• Ran street sweeper.

• Cleaned drains.

• Graded E 8th St and W 2nd St. and in alleys.

• Patched pot holes.

• Used cement and fill dirt to fill washout on Kansas St. washout.

• Mowed and weed eating right-of-way areas.

• Completed locates.

Transit:

• 431 riders this week.

Water/Sewer:

• Rebuilt chlorine analyzer.

• Replace manhole ring and cover on 1st and Sweetwater.

• Installed VFD in Well #2.

• Cleaned storm sewer on 5th and Missouri.

• Fixed drive on 18th and Colorado Well.

• Jetted 17125 ft. of sanitary sewer.

• Installed new bill changer in bulk water machine.

• Wired new chlorine transfer pump in 18th and Colorado well.

• 17 work orders completed.

• 96 locates completed.

• Weekly water samples completed.

• Chlorine residuals taken.

BBDC:

• Working with UNL Extension, PPHD, Twin Cities Development, ESU13, and Snow Redfern Foundation on a Career Pathways initiative to better connect our area youth with workforce opportunities in our region (more information to come).

• Attended NEDA monthly board meeting via zoom.

• Attended Heritage Days planning meeting.

• Co-hosted a Downtown District Forum with property owners in the downtown.

• Rural Fellows hosted their 1st of 2 Lunch & Learns on Marketing on Thursday. The next will be held on July 6 in Hemingford – there is still time to register!

• Met with Rock Valley Physical Therapy to plan our upcoming Perfect Blend July 11th as they will host.

• Met with Leadership Box Butte committee at the Chamber to plan Class 20. Apply today!

Airport:

• Taxiway/Apron Rehabilitation Project – Middle portion of the apron is not complete however it should be finished next week. Final coats of paint on taxiways has started.

• Maintenance Gate is fixed!

• Drainage ditch for the airfield cleaned out of tumble weeds.

• Sprayed weeds around hangars and concrete pads, Taxiway D, and Runway 26 overrun area.

• Swapped the blower head for the broom. Swept Runway 12/30. Training on sweeper with new employee.

• Mowing of perimeter fence.

• Special inspections completed for taxiway and runways lips not being over 3 inches. Special inspections completed for light bases and asphalt repairs done to areas over the acceptable limit.

• Repair hangar door.

• Repair perimeter fence corner.

• Outside terminal windows washed and all light fixtures on inside cleaned.

• Final touches on budget and preparing for FAA document review that begins on July 10th and on-site July 18-19.

Museum:

• Hosted and catered a railroad book of rules training.

• Tourist traffic has been consistent for the past several weeks.

• Two events were held in the basement and theater rooms.

• Worked on replacing the large touch screen monitor in the exhibit space as it is no longer working.

• Making arrangements for several future programs and book signings.

• Replaced several lights and repaired other items in the exhibits.

• Coordinating the display of several old signs that were recently donated to the Museum.

Parks:

• Laid the remainder of sod at the 8th street tennis courts and in the Bandshell block, where the pump house was torn down.

• Sprayed herbicide on the cracks at Sudman block, the Senior Center, City Hall, Tenth Street Overpass and 3rd Street underpass. Sprayed herbicide on the bare ground at Bower Baseball Field, BN Ballfield, Laing Lake, and The Softball Complex.

• Watered the trees at the Lineman School and Laing Lake. Mowed and picked up grass on the west side of Laing Lake in preparation for The Fourth of July fireworks.

• Regular mowing and trimming.

• Started trimming the cemetery again.

Library:

• Preparations are under way for the Farmer’s market, which begins August 3rd. The APL Foundation will have a booth at the market with some unique and fun items for sale. Proceeds from the Foundation booth will go to support the library’s future programming. The move of the non-fiction area is still underway with exciting things to come!

• Technical Services Librarian Emily Nelson continued assisting with reorganization of the Nonfiction section. She also processed the Interlibrary Loans for the Library Book Club and made the weekly Book Mobile deliveries.

• Adult Services Librarian Nalani Stewart continued the Non-Fiction shelf reading project with Technical Services Librarian Emily, hosted the APL Book Club where they discussed The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey, and catalogued new materials. She also hosted the book club at Highland Park, hosted Fiber Arts Club and put together a new “UFO” display.

• Library Clerks Pam Becker and Kris Wilder have been busy wrapping up summer reading records. New displays are being created surrounding the circulation desk. Kris has been very helpful in creating items for the Foundation booth.

• Sadly, this week our high school library page Simmi Kaur had her last day of work. She is off to LSU to study pre-medicine. We will miss Simmi dearly and wish her the best in her future endeavors!

RSVP:

• The Alliance Senior Center will be hosting a weekly corn hole tournament starting, Tuesday July 11th at 9:30 a.m. This tournament requires a two-man team including at least one senior (60+). Call the Senior Center to register your team by Friday, July 7th.
