Reflections for the Week of June 30

Police:

 Met with WSKF regarding plans for the Public Safety Center

 Police Review Board and Civil Service Commission interviewed three police officer candidates who are moving forward with background checks

 Attended City Council Meeting and Staff Meeting

 Completed FY26 Budget submission

 Met with Chamber of Commerce regarding planning for National Night Out on August 5th

 Will attend the July 4th Fireworks Celebration

Golf:

 Preparing for the member/guest tournament this weekend. We have a full field!  Course continues to be in great shape

 Ordered a used picker cart to replace the old cart that was no longer functional  Play continues to be steady, especially on the weekends.

Library:

 Children’s Librarian Cynthia Horn’s highlights include final projects with Under the Alliance Night Sky Summer Reading, recognizing winners, compiling photos and many “thank you’s”! LEGO Club worked on Carhenge and Heritage Days themed creations. Cynthia’s other projects included June Stats, updating book displays, cataloging new materials and maintaining backpacks.

 Adult Services Librarian Stephanie Hamilton has been finalizing preparations for the Adult Summer Reading Program including arranging displays. The kickoff to the program is our staff Spine Poetry Contest. Staff have arranged descriptive personal narrative poems using titles from books. The public is invited to try to guess which staff members created which poems by submitting an entry form with their guesses. All correct guesses will be entered into a drawing for a $75 gift certificate to Hug in a Mug! Steph also delivered books to and visited Highland Park Care Center and Assisted Living Center.

 Technical Services Librarian Mason Trumble has been very helpful in creating posts and keeping the website current. Mason has been working the circulation desk as part of his training and will be beginning his certification with the state of Nebraska. We are happy to have him here!

 Library Clerk Pam Becker has been busy helping finish the children’s program and making sure things are ready to roll at circulation for the beginning of the adult program. Parks:

 Worked on 4th of July preparations including mowing Laing Lake, picking up clippings and trimming the entire park.

 Mowed and trimmed all small parks in town

 Mowed all of the ballfields

 Emptied all trash and pet waste containers

 Applied herbicide to park areas as weather conditions allowed

 Switched the fountain lights to red, white, and blue for the holiday

Electric:

 Installing load control/disconnect boxes

 Performing load control on irrigation wells as needed

 Assisted Parks Department with removal of faulty water heater at pool

 Attended Council Meeting and Leadership team meeting

 Attended “zoom” call with Engineers on solar field issues

 Interviewed two applicants for lineman position

 Assembled and prepared equipment for Burnham Drive alley conversion project starting next week

 Disconnected service at site of garage fire

Airport:

 Passenger count for June was 347 enplaned and 317 deplaned.

 Participated in a meeting with TSA district personnel regarding new equipment and checkpoint constraints.

 Met with airport engineers and City Manager to discuss terminal remodel ideas and parking options.

 Met with airport engineers to start work on Title VI program for the airport. This is a requirement from FAA for grants and due by end of September.

 Reached out to all contractors for projects still planned to be completed this fiscal year. This would include FBO drain, FBO windows, and a repair on building 3209.

 Terminal roof has a few spots that were repaired due to leak.

 Maintenance staff participated in monthly ARFF training.

 Sprayed Runway 17/35 and Runway 26 overrun area for weeds.

 Mowed T-hangar ditch, airport road ditch, drainage ditch, Runway 12/30, Runway 8/26, warehouse area, and all taxiways.

 Sprayed for Parks department.

 Dragging of prairie dog mounds on grazing land continues.

Human Resources:

 Pulse Survey Preparation: We are preparing to launch our next Employee Pulse Survey to gather valuable feedback on workplace satisfaction, communication, and organizational culture. Insights from this survey will guide future employee engagement strategies.

 All-Employee Training (September): Preliminary arrangements are underway for a citywide, all-employee training session this September. This training will focus on professional development and organizational alignment.

 HR participated in both Leadership Team meetings and the recent City Council session to provide personnel-related input and support.

 Hosted both the Police Review Board and the Civil Service Commission to facilitate the ongoing recruitment and hiring of police officers.

 Finalized updates to the Medical and Dental Plan Documents to reflect current offerings. These restated documents will be distributed to employees shortly.

 Assisted City Council in the successful promotion of Ammie Bedient to the role of City Clerk. We extend our congratulations and support to Ammie in her new position!

 Provided direct assistance to the City Manager on various personnel matters.

 Continued with daily HR responsibilities, including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, policy administration, and compliance monitoring.

Streets:

 12 locates

 Patch Kansas Street overpass and 10th street overpass

 Remove and replace curb at 7th and Box Butte

 Sweep streets; Hauled off sweeper dirt

 Ongoing pothole patching

 Painted yellow center lines in various areas throughout town

Water/Sewer:

 12 locates; 21 work orders

 4 radios installed

 11,600 feet of sewer line jetted

 Cleaned pump at lift station

 Mowed fields at 25th Street to Marvin circle and old community gardens  Chlorine residuals

 Assisted 2 customers with low water pressure

 Removed boiler at swimming pool

 Mowed at Laing Lake

Landfill:

 101.6 tons of refuse; 235 customers this week

 Laid dirt cover

 Performed periodic maintenance

 Ran the burn box

 Trash route training; Skid steer training

Accounting and Finance:

 Attended Council meeting

Utilities Billing Services:

 Seven new residential accounts

Administration:

 Ammie Bedient was selected as the City’s new City Clerk! Congratulations, Ammie!

 City Council meeting held. Follow-up meeting held with Staff.

 Met with architects on proposed sites and layouts for the public safety center.

 Met with multiple Council members and department heads

 Preparation for upcoming Council Meetings

 Met with the TSA to discuss accommodations for new safety screening equipment, possible remodel associated with that equipment, and contract for leasing of terminal space to the TSA.

 Addressed personnel issues

 Work on the FY26 budget.

 Preparations for the Independence Day fireworks show.
