Fire:
Chief signed off on the engineering drawings for the City’s new ambulance that has been on order since February 24, 2023. According to Rocky Mountain Emergency Vehicles (Vendor) and Life Line Emergency Vehicles (Builder) we should see delivery of the ambulance sometime in August.
Sandhills Energy provided training on the Alliance Solar Field Emergency Action Plan. Fire Department was the host site for the city-wide employee huddle. Chief participated in an Alliance Times-Herald interview on potential public safety radio
infrastructure project and possible federal funding with the Chief of Police and Communications Supervisor.
Fire Department staff participated in a joint retirement committee meeting. Fire Department Line Officers participated in State-Wide Radio System training with the State’s Office of Chief Information Officer (OCIO).
Finance:

Human Resources:
The City is in the process of interviewing and hiring for multiple departments. HR is currently completing the preliminary conditions for several of these positions with pending new hires, along with administering skills assessments and testing as required.

Facilitated a presentation at our all-employee Huddle introducing our new EAP benefit – Bree Health, which features coaching, counseling, as well as financial, legal, and health advocacy.
Conducted the annual Retirement Plan Review with the Retirement Committee and Principal. The City is working on an agreement with a new Retirement Advisor.
HR is helping the administration prepare for budget discussions on potential wage and benefit changes.
HR is working on preparations for an all-supervisor training in April. Topics will include a discussion on culture, the engagement survey results, and actions to be taken from employee feedback. There will also be a presentation on Core Leadership Skills and When to Call HR, which helps supervisors identify situations with legal or HR implications before they become a bigger issue. This will be hosted internally by City staff.
Working with department heads, supervisors, and employees on FMLA, Workers’ Compensation, ADA, and processing related requests. Maintaining DOT-required drug and alcohol testing requirements and began preparations for an audit in April. Streets:

Knight Museum:
We provided a testing site for the Railroad.
The APD and Wing Task Force met in the Theater.

The museum will be closed April 6th, April 7th & 8th while we host the Nebraska Museum Conference.
Parks:
Installed one of two new doors on the Laing Lake restrooms.
Picked up weeds and trash in fence lines at Bower Ballfield.
Worked on the John Deere Gator.
Overseeded areas at the cemetery that are sparse.
Finished up dirt work at BN Ballfield.
Watered young trees.
Weekly trash check.
Cleaned off the tennis courts for the Alliance Invite.
One funeral this week for Saturday.

Spring means spring cleaning at the library. We have begun the daunting task of cleaning out the library’s basement and the storage/work room upstairs. All this cleaning means there have been many new items added to the book store and the free shelf in the hallway! Come up and take a look at what you can take home!
Adult Services Librarian Nalani Stewart hosted the APL Book Club and the book club at Highland Park Care Center. She also gained more continuing education hours for the NLC Public Librarian Certification and created the signage for the ANAC Gallery Art Show.
Children’s Librarian Cynthia Horn’s Story Time A to Z featured “What’s New” with Show and Tell Time. Cynthia also shared upcoming programs on KCOW Radio, organized Book Mobile items, maintained backpacks and cataloged new items. Her ongoing projects include updating book displays, preparations for upcoming events, shelving checks and weekly stats. Marvelous March events continue with searches for Little Blue Peep and Captain America. Marvelous Adventure Book Club met this week for grades 3-5, with families also being invited. This included youth sharing their own written and illustrated works in addition to Marvel history and discussion.
Technical Services Librarian Emily Nelson updated programming information on the website, made weekly Book Mobile deliveries, and assisted patrons. She also worked on some summer reading projects and ordered ILLs for upcoming library book club meetings.
Library Clerks Stephanie Hamilton and Pam Becker have been a great help in adding items to the bookstore and helping bring items up from the basement.
Golf:
The Golf course has come thru the winter in fantastic shape! We are open whenever the weather is nice, and this week has been beautiful! 340 rounds this week and counting! We are receiving a lot of new memberships and cart leases
While you are at the course, stop in to the pro shop and see all the new products that continue to arrive!
Electric:
Three employees travelled to Wahoo to help restore power to multiple communities following snow and ice in that area late last week. They were complimented on their work by a Municipal Energy Agency of Nebraska (MEAN) contractor: “I assisted MEAN with Foreman duties on the Wahoo storm damage, after watching the Alliance crew work, we lined them up with the more complicated projects due to their obvious experience and problem solving skills. A hard working safe crew you sent and I’m sure you will be contacted for any future mutual aid. Thanks for your help and you’ve built a very great crew.” Thank you to all our Electric Department Employees, especially those who sacrificed to go help fellow Nebraskans!
