Airport:
Taxiway/Apron project update – West portion of general aviation apron has been re-paved and the commercial apron was worked on this week. We anticipated that that portion be complete next Tuesday with small patch repairs on the middle portion of the general aviation apron remaining. This project will not be completed by the end of May and hoping for completion before our FAA inspection in June.
Conducted Airport Emergency Plan Review/Training on Tuesday morning with airport staff, TSA, Airline personnel, FBO, police and fire department.
Submitted updated Airport Certification Manual for FAA approval.
Participated in Prairie Dog Advisory board meeting.
Participated in a phone conference call with FAA, airport engineers, and NDOT Aeronautics division regarding the electrical project at the airport.
Placed annual airfield sign panel order.
Started uploading necessary documents for that portion of the FAA inspection.
Mowing this week consisted of the terminal area, Runway and Taxiway B.
Multiple construction inspections completed. They are required before and after every phase is open or closed for operations along with daily inspection.
Maintenance was completed on the large mower deck.
The snow blower head was removed and replaced with the broom. This is used to sweep apron, taxiways, and runways keeping them free from debris.
Weekly ARFF truck inspections complete.
RSVP & Senior Center:
The senior center hosted Bingo, card parties, coffee and treats on Friday morning and a movie Friday afternoon.
Continued serving in-house meals and delivering to local seniors.
RSVP had 10 volunteers in the community this week.
Golf Course:
Staff hosted a course clean up event at the course and had a great turn out. Volunteers removed trees, stained the deck around the clubhouse and removed landscape rock which was replaced by mulch to provide a better growing environment for landscape plants.
SkyView hosted a Senior Ladies tournament this week.
Junior golf registration continues. Call the pro shop if you are interested.
Play continues to be busy when weather conditions allow.
Parks Department:
Filled the fountain after making some repairs to get it up and running.
Extensive Memorial Day preparations at the cemetery were completed. Big thank you to Public Works and the Electric Department for loaning us some staff to help out there! Lots of mowing, trimming, and grass clippings pickup.
Two funerals this week.
Mowed all the large parks and ballfields this week. Completed some trimming as time allowed.
Emptied all the trash cans in the parks as necessary.
Took picnic tables downtown for a community event.
Assisted with pool operations as necessary.
Library:
This week marked the beginning of registration for the summer reading program. On Monday we had 280 patrons visit the library! Many thanks to Bob Swedeen and Pat McCauley for their efforts in setting up the awesome prizes! Also, a huge shout out to the Alliance Public Library Foundation for contributing over $3,500 in prizes this year! Summer reading is the busiest time of year for the library, and we are very happy to see all the positive response the program is getting! It is very inspiring to see young people getting out and participating and truly makes all the effort very worthwhile and rewarding.
Adult Services Librarian Nalani Stewart cataloged new materials, updated our website and Facebook page, and hosted the book club at Highland Park Care Center. She also helped with Summer Reading Registration and processed Inter-library loans.
Children’s Librarian Cynthia Horn prepared registration packets for the “Adventure Begins At Your Library” Summer Reading Program, and made final preparations for events. She also hosted LEGO Club, organized and delivered bookmobile items, mailed packages for the library, made KCOW announcements, and cataloged new items.
Library Clerks Stephanie Hamilton and Pam Becker have been very busy issuing new cards for summer reading patrons and helping with the registration process.
Museum:
We have been preparing for our three days at the Alliance Cemetery over Memorial Day weekend. We will be giving demonstrations on grave witching at 2 pm on Saturday & Sunday. If you have questions about the cemetery, stop out and one of our staff will be glad to help you.
With warmer weather and the pool going, staff has been selling lots of passes for the 2024 season.
The number of visitors to the museum continues to be up. We have seen lots of visitor traffic this week.
Shelterhouse rentals and other park activities are picking up with the beautiful summer weather.
With school out and nicer weather, we are seeing kids in the Museum on a more regular basis.
Parents, please remind your kids to treat the museum like a special place and to be on their best
behavior. We really appreciate your help and want to make coming to the museum a great
experience for kids and staff alike.
