Reflections for the Week of May 27-31

Electric:

∙ Installed conduit, concrete foundation and cabinet for equipment for electric service at new potato processing site on Valley Road

∙ Replaced three transformers on irrigation well transformer banks damaged from lightning this week. Replaced several pieces of line equipment damaged from lightning storms

∙ Installed new LED lights in Lakefield area

Senior Center & RSVP:

∙ RSVP had ten volunteers in the community at multiple activities in the community.

∙ Senior Center hosted card parties, bingo, Coffee & Treats, and a move party this week.

SkyView Golf Course:

∙ Play continued to be busy when the weather cooperated.

∙ Junior Golf Registration is still open and starts on June 10th. Call the pro shop if you are interested.

Parks & Cemetery:

∙ Mowed the disc golf course to better define the course and improve playability.

∙ Mowed, trimmed and picked up grass clippings in preparation for the car show in Central Park this weekend. All weekly mowing done.

∙ Vacuumed the Central Park fountain.

∙ Placed picnic tables in Central Park for the car show.

∙ Completed weekly trash pick up in all parks.

∙ Completed irrigation repairs as necessary.

Library:

∙ Summer reading is officially underway and the response has been incredible! Tuesday alone we had 350 people walk through our library doors! What an exciting time!

∙ Children’s Librarian Cynthia Horn has “Adventure Begins At Your Library” registration continuing on with the first week of reading check-ins. Cynthia also held Story Time Adventures with special guests, Christa Fulk and Danielle Walters with music and watercolor bookmarks, and prepared for upcoming events. She also did KCOW announcements, organized and delivered the bookmobile, cataloged new items, and updated the website and book displays.

∙ Adult Services Librarian Nalani Stewart cataloged new materials, updated our website and social media pages, and assisted patrons on the computers. She also hosted the APL Book club, and the book club at Highland Park Care Center.

∙ Library Clerks Pam Becker and Stephanie Hamilton have been busy issuing many new cards for patrons due to the summer reading program. The desk has been CRAZY this week and these two ladies are the ones making sure all the patrons and the kids are being taken care of.

Fire:

∙ Fire and Airport staff completed their annual FAA Part 139 live-fire training at Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota.

∙ Held weekly career staff meeting.

∙ FD staff assisted the police department in the search and rescue efforts of the missing elderly female, who was successfully located.

Police:

∙ Reviewed FY25 budget submission with City Manager

∙ Prepared Mobile Camera Trailer grant purchase for Council approval

∙ Ordered new dispatch wireless headset systems through 911 funds

∙ Ordered new 24/7 chair for dispatch to replace the broken chair

∙ Ordered new backup batteries to replace the 911 console batteries in dispatch through 911 funds ∙ Meeting with Rick Derr with Action Communications to discuss possible federal funding for new radio system and repeater.

∙ Continued ongoing efforts, media communication and coordination to locate missing person Patricia Eichhorn.

Accounting and Finance:

∙ Attended COPS Hiring Grant webinar

Utility Billing Office:

∙ 9 new residential accounts created

Airport:

∙ Taxiway/Apron project update – Milling and replacement of asphalt has been completed on both sides of the apron. Grinding is occurring on both sides of apron and on Taxiway D. Paint inspections of all areas were conducted yesterday during the day and night hours. Multiple construction inspections completed. They are required before and after every phase is open or closed for operations along with daily inspection.

∙ Staff attended required annual ARFF Live Burn training in Ellsworth.

∙ Cleaned garbage from both sides of airport road.

∙ New employee received mowing training. Mowing of the airport road and Runway 8/26.

∙ Repairs completed on the de-ice sprayer equipment. This equipment is also used for spraying of weeds on the airfield.

Human Resources:

∙ Finished setting up new employee accounts for seasonal hires who started with the City this past week. The City still has seasonal positions available in Parks and the Golf Pro Shop. Interested candidates should apply soon before all positions are filled.

∙ Conducted required DOT training to provide federally required updates to our FMCSA and FTA employees. This includes recent updates to the City’s Drug and Alcohol testing policy to ensure compliance with DOT rules.

∙ Completing pre-employment conditions for individuals scheduled to begin employment and references for the same.

∙ Communicating with current applicants regarding testing and interviews for police, sergeant and lieutenant positions. Preparing for upcoming Civil Service Commission meeting and interviews for Police Officers.

Water/Sewer:

∙ Completed 16,000 feet of sanitary sewer jetting

∙ Completed 19 work orders

∙ Marked 11 locates

∙ Attended DOT drug testing training

∙ Collected water samples and chlorine residuals

∙ Replaced vactor hose
