Animal Control:

• 35 Animal Calls.

• 6 Dog Impounds. 1 dog currently in the shelter.

Code Enforcement:

• 1 Code enforcement issue.

Notable Service:

• Satisfaction rating 90.8%.

• Overall crime is down 6.4% YTD from last year YTD.

BBDC:

• Met with USDA Monday on potential application for the Rural Business Development Grant and preparing a letter of intent.

• Worked with Vacanti Consulting on grant opportunities.

• Attended the second meeting for the Policy Leadership Academy on Early Childhood Development.

• Participated in Leadership Box Butte Education Day tours and conversation.

Electric:

• Continue to make progress on the three-phase rebuild projects on Knox Road and CR 60.

• Started putting the Christmas decorations and related banners up around town.

• Continue to repair and or replace streetlights with new LED fixtures.

• Attended the quarterly board of directors MEAN meeting in Kearney as well as a meeting with Sandhills Solar on the proposed solar field.

• We have received and are preparing all of the needed replacement parts for the Cody substation feeder repair that was a result of an auto accident last month.

• We have been performing maintenance on equipment and personal safety items as weather dictates.

Streets:

• Service work on vehicles.

• Hauled dirt for landfill.

Water/Sewer:

• ROV inspection complete on Elkhorn tower and W. 3rd tower.

• 13 work orders complete.

• 5 locates complete.

• Airport Well #2 cleaning complete.

Transit:

• 622 riders.

• Training ongoing for new dispatching software.

Landfill:

• 164 customers.

• 218 tons of refuse this week.

• Constructed base for new dumping pad on MSW hill.

• Organized bailer room.

• Worked with street department to move dirt.

• Metal recycle company hauled material.

• Road repair underway.

Chamber of Commerce:

• Leadership Box Butte held their monthly session on Education on Thursday, November 17th.

• Attended the Discover SourceLink Nebraska meeting via Zoom.

Airport:

• Work continues on the 2021 hail storm claim with contactor concentrating on buildings outside of our wildlife/security fence. The job is going well.

• Preparation for Monday’s training is complete. Monday will cover Snow/Ice Plan and winter processes.

• A very big thank you to Parks and Streets/Landfill Departments for assisting the airport in our invasion of tumbleweeds. It was so appreciated and needed to be done before any snow event. Airport staff continues to work on tumbleweeds.

• United States Department of Transportation has opened up the bid for airline service in Alliance. The bids can be submitted until mid-December. The current contract with Denver Air Connection is complete the end of May, 2023.

Museum:

• Hosted the Museum Board and Museum Partners meetings.

• Christmas Festival preparations continued all week. Dates for the event are Nov. 26 – Dec. 3. Bidding ends at 4 p.m. on Saturday Dec. 3.

• Leadership Box Butte completed projects at the museum for the Christmas Tree Festival.

Parks:

• Helped the airport clear tumble weeds.

• Installed weed barrier under fencing on B field at the softball complex. Next, staff will be installing the panels that wrap each fence post. This will eliminate the need to trim along this fence line in the summer. If successful, staff will add this material to other locations as well.

• Completed repairs on the picnic shelters at Laing Lake.

• Continued services equipment and trucks and assembled a parts list and got necessary items ordered.

• Assisted at the Museum with preparations for the Christmas Festival.

• Organized and completed inventory on the irrigation supplies to get 2023 orders ready.

• Prepared for a funeral on Saturday.

RSVP & Senior Center:

• Prepped for and served the annual “Thanksgiving Dinner” on Thursday November 17. The Center served over 60 residents a full turkey dinner.

Library:

• The Bountiful Book Basket auction is in full swing and we are happy to report things are going very well! Make sure to come up to see this year’s selection and find the perfect gift! Bids will be accepted until Thursday, December 1st at 5:30.

• The staff has begun assembling the trees in the library. Many thanks to those in Public Works who always graciously assist us!

• This week, Adult Services Librarian Nalani Stewart continued working on her Leadership NLC course, created some items to sell in the bookstore, and catalogued new classic books for our collection. She also created a new display to highlight some of the new classic books to give some new life to old stories, and hosted BYOB club on Thursday in the community room.

• Children’s Librarian Cynthia Horn created a New Wiggleworm feature on the website, updated reading displays and new books for the holidays, and made preparations for Holiday crafts!

• Library Clerks Pam Becker and Kris Wilder have been busy offering a helping hand in all the various projects. I appreciate the flexibility of these two and all the ways they can change their hats to assist their co-workers.

Fire:

• Representatives from Fire Training Structures were in Alliance Monday through Wednesday afternoon, inspecting and making repairs to our training structure. They will be coming back in a few weeks to conduct more inspections.

• Several Zoom training/meetings, one of which was a state-wide recruitment and retention committee meeting that the Chief sits on.

Community Development:

• The Board of Adjustment had a meeting for a variance request from WESTCO. The Board approved the variance allowing a 74’ wide driveway as opposed to the 40’ wide driveway permitted by code at 1630 West 10th Street. The request was to accommodate truck traffic entering and exiting the property on West 10th Street which isn’t paved as wide other City Streets.

• Issued a building permit for the WESTCO Tire Shop at 1630 West 10th Street.

HR:

• Weekly call with Payroll System implementation team to coordinate information sharing between the City and Paylocity for accurate data configuration.

• Director Carla Mayhew attending the National SHRM Conference in Washington, DC.

• Assisting employees with requests for Insurance and other benefits.

• Conducting audit for billing with RCI for end of year charges and preparation for 2023.

• Updated City Council for proposed adjustments and renewal for the City’s 2023 Health Insurance Plan.

• Working with applicants to complete pre-employment screenings and scheduling new employees to begin work.
