Reflections for the Week of Oct. 24-28, 2022

Finance:

• August sales taxes received in October were $212,743 which is the highest month in 2022 but less than the $221,406 for the same month last year.

Fire:

• Chief attended the Nebraska State Volunteer Firefighters Association Annual Conference last week in Norfolk.

• Assisted in the interview process for an Airport Maintenance Worker position.

Street Department:

• Staff installed new LED school crosswalk sign at 6th and Mississippi.

• Sign inventory storage rack and tracking system under construction

• Assisted with completion of bathroom demolition at Knight Park

• Completed 500 hour service on road grader. Changed rotors on dump truck

• Ordered slice in preparation for winter. Update of snow route signs underway

• Sweeping leaves ongoing

• 10th and Flack storm drain repair complete

• Library storm drain lid repaired

• Storm Sewer Jetting process under review for 2023 budget

Water Department:

• Repaired sewer cleanout at Carhenge which had been damaged by a vehicle.

• Repaired two separate fire hydrants at New Alliance Bean which had been damaged by vehicles.

• Chlorine pump repair completed at water treatment facility

• Sewer Camera in process of seal replacement and annual inspection.

• Lift Station A PLC failure and subsequent replacement complete. On-call staff manually operated the equipment for 30 hours.

• Toluca water tower received paint coating, installation of PAX mixer and installation of antenna system for police department surveillance cameras

• Well field roof and trim repair competed

• Staff completed vactor cleaning of public works drain infrastructure

• Sewer tap and water water completed on new construction site 21st and Big Horn

• Vactor truck electrical upgrade completed

• Review of equipment rates and tap fee schedule underway

• Water meter remote metering process under review

Landfill:

• 249 tons of reuse collected this week

• 221 customers this week

• Third quarter groundwater monitoring submittal waiting approval

• Game and Parks to begin nuisance animal trapping

• Painted new stairs to bailer maintenance area

• Completed track maintenance on bailer

• Moved oil pumps from maintenance shop to landfill shop

• Loader repair of DEF temp sensor complete

• Built holding area for new dumpsters

Transit:

• Implementation of new electronic dispatching system underway

• Overall crime is down 2.8% YTD from last year YTD

Airport:

• Painting of Taxiway C & D is being painted right now. When that is completed they can be opened back up. Apron areas are being laid and expected to be done early next week. Project will then be suspended until Spring.

• Interviews being conducted for open position with a final decision being made early next week.

• Final mowing being completed before winter.

BBDC:

• Organizing a site visit from IEDC on BR&E recommendations for Box Butte County (Nov. 6-9)

• Wednesday held Hemingford Career Day for HS Freshman in Hemingford

• Thursday was Leadership Box Butte – Industry Tours: Parker, New Alliance, Farmers Coop, Buchheit Precision, and various downtown businesses in both Alliance and Hemingford

• Friday spoke to a couple of AHS Juniors in Careers Class

Electric:

• Progressing on the Emerson/Platte alley rebuild

• A large section of Alliance experienced a power outage on Monday morning as a result of an auto accident; crews cleared the lines and re-routed power.

• A streetlight pole at the intersection of west 3rd street and Highway 385 was knocked down as the result of auto accident on Monday morning as well.

• Built a three phase service on CR 62 for grain bin augers and dryers.

• Working with contractor on the installation of new cameras for Police Department.

• Working with the Parker Plant maintenance department on a planned outage on Saturday, October 29 for line maintenance as well as building maintenance.

Community Development:

• Building Permit issued for a Bar/Grill/ band practice area at 716 Flack Avenue.

• Certificate of Occupancy issued for Platte Valley Bank at 217 W 3rd St.

• Inspected 1730 Plains Street in Homestead Addition and condemned the structure.

• Prepared maps for the solar field project.

Library:

• Progress continues on the roof replacement to repair damage done by the 2020 and 2021 hail storms. Skylights have been replaced, letting in much more natural light to show off the beauty of our library.

Human Resources:

• Completing Pre-employment conditions for new hires in Police and Fire departments.

• Conducting interviews for airport maintenance worker.

• Initiating payroll changes for the new contract year.

• Met with insurance broker and administration to plan for 2023 Insurance Renewal.
