Police:

• Attended the Police Chiefs Association of Nebraska meeting in Kearney

• Met with HR to finalize new promotional testing process

• Met with City Clerk about changes to camper/trailer/boat parking ordinance and large truck ordinance for council consideration

• Attended APS Leadership meeting

• Met with Rapid SOS about 911 mapping upgrades and additional features with state funded upgrade

• Held APD Leadership meeting

• Met with Region 1 Mental Health and Box Butte General Hospital staff about mental health and substance abuse resources

Water/Sewer:

• Repairs at Burnham Well

• Finished and submitted lead line inventory

• Collected water samples and chlorine residuals

• Added extension to fire hydrant

• Read cycle 2 radios

• Fixed leak at Burnham Well and Elkhorn Well

• Exercised water tower valve for upcoming cleaning

• Began winterizing sewer lake pivots

• Installed 33 radios

• Completed 17 work orders

Transit:

• 796 riders this week

Streets:

• Picked up barricades from crosswalk painting

• Graded Sweetwater Avenue

• Attended demo for leaf vacuum

• Installed solar stop sign

• Replaced vandalized stop sign

• Crack sealed new concrete in 10 locations

• Crack sealed all streets in Meadowlark Addition

• Ongoing sweeping

• Graded E. 8th Street

Landfill:

• Attended meeting with business owner regarding rate study

• Compiled rate comparison documents

• 232 customers this week

• 269 tons this week

• Ongoing baler repairs

• Scheduled metal recyclers to pick up stockpile

• Seal coat Runway 12/30 & 8/26 – permanent markings being installed

• Electrical Project – The engineering agreement has been approved by Aeronautics division and FAA and will be on council agenda next week.

• Participated in a phone conference call regarding upgraded equipment for the checkpoint. The equipment will not fit into the existing space and further research into options is taking place.

• Preliminary work on new capital projects has begun.

• Participated in multiple phone conference calls regarding our upcoming airline bid. • Most of the terminal parking lot has been painted.

• Maintenance staff replaced the batteries and deck lights on the ARFF truck. • Final mowing is completed of all airfield areas

Knight Museum:

• We hosted the monthly Museum Scrappers group. If you are interested in preserving your family legacy through your photos, please call and get on our list or join the Museum Scrappers page on Facebook.

• We hosted a baby shower.

• We hosted the monthly DAR meeting.

• Our massive inventory project continues with the dish and toy collections being completed this week. On an odd note, we spent an afternoon cataloging and boxing our multi-piece International Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF) collection. How odd is that!

• The “Fallen Soldier” display finished on Monday.

Parks:

• Installed new dog park signs.

• Removed rotten trim boards on the Laing Lake shelters and installed new ones.

• Started painting the shelters at Laing Lake.

• Mowed where needed.

• Picked up grass piles at Sallows, Old Pool Parking Lot, Bower Park, and Softball Complex.

• Irrigation repairs at Softball, Bower, BN Ballfields.

• Reattached AC units on the Big Blue Bay bathhouse roof.

Senior Center:

• This week we held a card party, bingo, bunco, and coffee and treats. We also showed a movie.

• We had 20 volunteers in the community.

• We appreciate the donation of a card table from Clara Roes.

Library:

• Many thanks to the crew at the Alliance Fire Department who came to visit our Storytime kids this week! This is always a big hit and we are thankful the firefighters take the time to deliver their important message of fire safety to our young people!

• It is getting very close to our annual Book Basket auction, which is set to begin Monday, November 4th and end Thursday, November 21st. We will begin featuring some of this year’s auction items next week, so check our Facebook page for details!

• Children’s Librarian Cynthia Horn held a Story Time A to Z featuring “F is for Fire Safety” with the Alliance Fire Department. She did an outreach visit with Head Start classrooms featuring apples. She also hosted over 60 youth and staff from Alliance Middle School for a Breakout Box adventure featuring “Apollo to the Moon” to correspond with the launch of Europa! She made KCOW announcements, organized the Book Mobile, cataloged new items and prepared for upcoming events.

• Technical Services Librarian Emily Nelson updated the Staff Picks page on the website, updated the social media pages, and assisted patrons on the computers. She also made the weekly Book Mobile deliveries and assisted with projects for upcoming fall and winter fundraising.

• Adult Services Librarian Nalani Stewart hosted our Fiber Arts Club sessions and the book club at Highland Park Care Center. She also cataloged new materials, completed the Curricula training and created flyers for new programs happening next month.

• Library Clerks Pam Becker and Stephanie Hamilton have been busy helping keep library records in order and processing new materials for checkout.

Fire:

• Conducted fire prevention activities throughout the week. They will be continuing next week as well.

• The department’s monthly meeting was held Wednesday evening.

• Career Staff meeting held Thursday morning.

• Helped host the Black Hills Energy Fire training on Thursday evening. We had departments from Bayard, Bridgeport, Chadron, Hemingford, Rushville, and Alliance. Thirty-five firefighters in total received this invaluable training.

• Jack’s Heating, Cooling, Stoves, and Fireplaces completed the fire department HVAC project.

Human Resources:

• Prepared City Council Narrative and Resolution for Employee and Employer Health Insurance Renewal and Firefighters Retirement Plan Amendment, to be discussed at an upcoming City Council meeting.

• Prepared an employee flyer about Open Enrollment and mailed it to employees along with the Medicare Part D Notice. Thank you to the Finance department for your help preparing the mailings.

• Selected employees and scheduled a meeting with an EAP vendor next week. Thank you to Kevin Hardin, Dustin Graham, Peyton Hudson, Cindy Baker, Brittany Miller, Lesa Merrill, and Jayce Bauer for your willingness to help explore this benefit further!

• Updating Job Postings, advertisements, job descriptions, and processing applications for vacant positions.

• Entered all changes to employee wages from COLA and FOP in Paylocity and processing merit increases.

• Scheduled a Civil Service Commission meeting for Friday, November 1st to interview Police Officer, Sergeant, and Captain candidates for open positions.

• Met with Employees and Department Heads to discuss and act on confidential matters, addressing concerns while ensuring compliance with Federal, State, and organization policies.

• Working with department heads, supervisors, and employees on FMLA, Worker’s Compensation, ADA, and processing related requests. Maintaining two DOT-required drug and alcohol testing programs (FTA and FMCSA).

• Accepting applications, administering applicant testing, completing pre employment/post-offer conditions for pending new hires, and completing onboarding for new employees.

• Continue to utilize Paylocity for employee feedback on HR Services.

• Current openings include Electric Metering & Load Control Technician, Landfill Heavy Equipment Operator, Secretary, Police Sergeant, Public Safety Dispatcher, Certified and Non-Certified Police Officers, and Part-Time Museum Support Clerk.

Administration:

• Issued Request for Proposal for Electric System Planning

• Advertised Requests for Proposal for Public Safety Center Preliminary Design and Tourism Services

• Preparation for next week’s council meeting

• Multiple personnel matters including an annual review

• Meetings with different department heads

• Participated in the Strategic Planning session for Box Butte Development Corporation

• Met with a local business on utility rates

• Participated in a demo for our ERP software.
