∙ We hosted Alan Bartles’ book signing to a very interested group. We will be hosting his companion photography show next summer.

∙ We hosted the Sandhills DAR chapter for their monthly meeting.
∙ Our Conference Room was used by an out of town law office.
∙ We hosted 145 local 4th graders for the 4-H & Extension Office Animal Workshop. It was a busy day that also included live chickens and goats!
∙ Information went out for our program given by Brian Croft “Nebraska in Maps: Image and Influence” which will be held Tues Oct 17 at 5:30. Brian is a professor at WNCC and appreciates every opportunity to share his passion for local history.
RSVP & Senior Center:
∙ Coordinated volunteers to assist with the volleyball tournament this weekend. ∙ Continued to provide dine in and delivery meals for area seniors.
∙ Scheduled a Flu shot clinic for seniors at the Center on October 24th from 11:00am to 1:30pm. Library:
∙ We are excited to see the kids coming in and searching for Gertie the Ghost! Children through 2nd grade can join the hunt to receive a great prize at the circulation desk. We have a great macramé ghost craft session planned for Thursday, October 19th. We also have added some fun fall items to the bookstore, so come up and see what is new!
∙ Children’s Librarian Cynthia Horn held Story Time featuring the Alliance Fire Department with Fire Safety! The AFD has done this for years for the kids, and we sincerely appreciate their support for the community! Friday the 13th movie night for children begins at 4PM and with popcorn, snacks, lemonade, and hot chocolate! Cynthia has also been busy organizing Book Mobile deliveries, backpacks, cataloging new items, and gearing up for upcoming events.
∙ Adult Services Librarian Nalani Stewart cataloged new Fiction books, created an example for the Macramé Rope Ghost craft class, and aided in creating prizes for the search for Gertie. She also hosted Fiber Arts Club, the book club at Highland Park Care Center, and the Spooky Movie Night.
∙ Technical Services Librarian Emily Nelson updated information on the social media sites and website, ordered a book club kit for a patron, assisted patrons with printing questions, and made the weekly Bookmobile deliveries. She also took the meeting minutes at the monthly library board meeting.
∙ Library Clerk Pam Becker has been busy processing new Fall materials and setting up new accounts. She also has some cute plans for bookstore additions that we are looking forward to! Parks:
∙ Picked up roll out refuse containers baseball fields and tennis courts.
∙ Got everything mowed for what might be the last time this season.
∙ Trimmed ballfield fences and other areas as necessary.
∙ Picked up grass clippings from Laing Lake.
∙ Sprayed the west side of Laing Lake, the ditch along the dog park and the old swimming pool areas.
∙ Repaired an oil leak in a mower.
∙ Drained the fountain and started winterizing it for the season.
Fire:
∙ Fire Prevention Week activities at local schools, daycares, and preschools. Fire truck rides for kindergartners ended the very successful week. This year’s Fire Prevention Week theme was “Cooking safety starts with YOU. Pay attention to fire prevention.”
Chamber:
∙ Beauty on the Bricks is coming together nicely and should be open in the very near future. ∙ Golden Hour BBQ has purchased the Newberry building and is under construction as we speak. They are hopeful for a December launch and are very excited to join the Alliance community! ∙ The transformation of Redman’s into a new arrival gym is being worked on every day and I will make contact with them shortly.
∙ Once again registration is available for Trunk & Treat 2023 downtown on Halloween online or at the Chamber office. We are filling up, but still have spots available!
Electric:
∙ We changed out 6 “reject” poles at various locations.
∙ Three personnel attended a safety/transformer connection seminar in Sidney on Tuesday. ∙ Performed chainsaw and vehicle maintenance.
∙ Cleaned and inspected substations.
∙ Had a surge arrestor fail causing a small outage early Friday morning.
∙ Working with engineer on solar field line rebuild specifications.
∙ Assisted Hemingford Utility Department on outage resulting in replacement of underground wire for housing units.
∙ Assisted Street Department with drilling bases for crosswalk light installations.
∙ Assisted PD with disconnecting of one set of Inalert cameras damaged from lightning strike.
Administration:
∙ Worked with recruiter on the posting for the vacant Police Chief position.
∙ Attended Box Butte Development Corporation board meeting.
∙ Preparation for October 17 Council Meeting.
