Airport:
∙ Department of Transportation awarded Denver Air Connection for airline service. Working with the airline to get added flights that we will have for 35 weeks out of the year.
∙ Working on new lease for airline and rental cars.
∙ Met with engineers in preparation for our kickoff meeting on the new Airport Layout Plan.
∙ Reviewing the final draft of the Title VI plan for the airport. The next step is to forward it to the FAA for approval and then it will go before City Council. This is a required plan to receive grant funding.
∙ Work continues on updating the Airport Minimum Standards and lease requests. ∙ Submitted all documents required to the FAA regarding the annual inspection. Waiting on the letter from the FAA closing the inspection.
∙ All airport staff participated in the community education in regards to prairie dogs. Our battle with control of prairie dogs continue and it is ongoing with the dragging of prairie dog mounds and wildlife control.
∙ Maintenance staff participated in monthly ARFF training.
∙ Mowed perimeter fence and edges of all taxiways.
∙ Sprayed paved areas and FAA equipment areas.
∙ Maintenance repaired gate in grazing tract “B” and a tank in another grazing pasture. ∙ Weed eating in the MALSR areas.
∙ Staff replaced a toilet in the maintenance shop.
RSVP & Senior Center:
∙ RSVP is collecting items to be delivered to Alliance’s first responders. Items we would appreciate include protein rich snacks, gum, sunscreen, ChapStick, hand sanitizer, candy, tissues, and electrolyte drink packets. For questions or to donate items contact the Senior Center at 762-1293. If you cannot bring items in, please call the center to schedule a pickup.
∙ RSVP had fifteen volunteers assisting with activities in the community. ∙ Staff hosted coffee and treats and bunco at the Senior Center this week. ∙ Continued providing dine in and delivery meals for area seniors.
Museum:
∙ Accepted donations from several families that included historical documentation about local organizations, photos and Christmas items
∙ Responded to several requests for information regarding family history and court documents
∙ Assisted a patron with updating her family tree
∙ Hosted BBGH in the conference room for training
∙ Hosted a Western Sugar Training meeting
∙ Hosted partner and Museum board meetings
Golf:
∙ Hosted the Panhandle Open over the Labor Day weekend
∙ Hosted the Panhandle Seniors on Tuesday
∙ Play continued to be steady with great weather conditions.
Library:
∙ Fall has officially taken over summer as our “busy season”, and we are all enjoying doing the little things to make the big things happen. Registration for the first annual “Witch’s Brew Tea” continues until September 30 or until all the spaces are full. This is open to children accompanied by a guardian that are 7 years and up. The cost for a ticket is $10 per person.
∙ Technical Service Librarian Mason Trumble has been busy with an overabundance of presentation slides for all the upcoming fall programming. He has also been busy shelf reading the collection and helping out at the circulation desk. Mason also helped in assembling the Ghostbuster Mobile for one of our new Halloween backpacks that will be unleashed next week!
∙ Adult Services Librarian Stephanie Hamilton has been working on continuing education class, adding to displays and creating new signage. Her outreach this week included a book club at Highland Park Assisted Living Center and visiting residents at the Care Center when she delivered library books. She is working with Technical Services Librarian Mason Trumble shelf reading the collection and they are currently working through the non-fiction.
∙ Children’s Librarian Cynthia Horn’s Story Time Stars shared “My Family” including Handprint Hearts and Family Trees. LEGO Club worked on their creations with several new members joining us. Book Mobile is picking up for the school year and we welcome back our school participants. Cynthia also worked on August Stats, cataloging and backpacks plus the addition of several new backpacks! Her ongoing projects include updating book displays, website and program preparations.
∙ Library Clerks Pam Becker and Carolyn Hamel have been busy preparing items for contests, getting items ready for the library to participate in “Trunk or Treat” for the first time this year, and processing all the items for the new backpacks!
Parks Division:
∙ Sprayed for weeds at Laing Lake and the old swimming pool area.
∙ Picked up grass clipping behind the mowers in most park areas.
∙ Prepared for a funeral for Monday morning.
∙ Installed new PTO clutches on two of the Hustler mowers that were down this week. ∙ Received trees from the Nebraska Forest service for planting at BN ballfield and 16th St. Tennis Courts.
∙ Started repairing a John Deere mower at the cemetery
Administration:
