RSVP & Senior Center:
Events hosted at the Senior Center this week included Cards, bingo, coffee and treats, and a movie afternoon
Thanks to donations from the community, volunteers were able to hand out twenty four care packages to first responders in Alliance. Twelve more will be delivered to Hemingford first responders.

Library:
Fall preparations continued this week with the introduction of SIX new Halloween themed backpacks. Five are for Pre-2nd and one is for the Juvenile collection. We are excited to see how these take off! If they are well-received, we plan on concentrating our efforts on creating more holiday themed backpacks for each of the upcoming seasons! The backpacks are one of our most popular items, so if you have a young person in your life come up and see what they are all about!
Children’s Librarian Cynthia Horn shared “School Days” at Storytime including guest reader, Miss Liz of BBGH Building Blocks. The group also decorated crayon holders to take home. LEGO Club worked on their creations. Digital Detox Fridays began with School Days Story Time at Highland Park Care Center. Cynthia also worked on Book Mobile organization, cataloging, backpacks, and the addition of several new backpacks! Her ongoing projects include updating book displays, website and program preparations.
Adult Services Librarian Stephanie Hamilton has been working on upcoming programming and projects and assisting patrons at the front desk with reading selections. Stephanie visited Highland Park Care center and is working on upcoming book club discussions and topics of interest. She continues to work on shelving the nonfiction section of the library and will start with fiction section soon.
Technical Services Librarian Mason Trumble has been helping assemble projects for fundraising, doing weekly bookmobile deliveries, assisting at the circulation desk, shelf reading, processing over dues, and assisting patrons at the public computers.
Library Clerks Pam Becker and Carolyn Hamel have been busy wrapping 1,400 suckers with bookmarks for our first Trunk or Treat participation downtown and processing all the new Fall materials.
Parks:
Installed new wheel bearings on the Toro work cart.
Repaired irrigation at the Softball Complex and the Senior Center.
Planted, staked, and watered nine trees from the Nebraska National Forest fall grant program at Sudman Field, 16th Street tennis courts and BN Ballfield.
Assisted Senior Center employees with unloading the food truck.
Continued mowing and picking up grass clippings in all areas of the parks.
Conducted interviews for the remaining open Parks position.
Staff prepared for and conducted two funerals this week.
Winterized the concession stands at Bower Ballfield and Sudman Fields. Airport:
Airport Layout Plan with narrative kick off meeting was held this week. Another meeting will be held in a couple of months. Will continue to work with interested parties to address needs of the airport and community.
Reviewing the final draft of the Title VI plan for the airport. The next step is to forward it to the FAA for approval and then it will go before City Council. This is a required plan to receive grant funding.
Work continues on updating the Airport Minimum Standards and lease requests.
Mowing occurred for Runway 12/30, Runway 8/26, and sewer lake road.
Weed eating and spot spraying in various areas around airport.
Clean up efforts in pasture areas.
Repairs on garage door on maintenance shop.
Our battle with control of prairie dogs continue and it is ongoing with the dragging of prairie dog mounds and wildlife control.
Nuisance Abatement:
Surpassed 650 Nuisance Abatement contacts for 2025.
82 new nuisance contacts.
58 completed nuisance abatement cases.
Community Development:
No September Planning Commission Meeting.
No August Board of Adjustment Meeting.
August Planning Commission Meeting had 10 Blight and Substandard Studies and the 2025 and 2026 Capital Improvement Budget.
Had a meeting with Daniel Bilka with AllAboard Northwest about the proposed Amtrak rail service through South Dakota to Denver via Alliance.
Participated in the APD public forum and discussion about nuisance abatement, curb strips, camper parking, etc.
Permitting:
10 Building Permits for an estimated improvement value of $106,364.
1 Zoning Permit for an estimated improvement value of $1800.
12 Plumbing and Mechanical Permits.
2 Right of Way Excavation, Construction, or Obstruction Permits.
Issued a permit for an addition to 613 East 3rd Street for a golf simulator.
Facility Maintenance:
