Richard Dale Meier passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at his home in Alliance, NE surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 27, 1951 in Scottsbluff, NE to William and Esther (Kaufman) Meier. He grew up in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.
On June 20, 1970 he married Kathleen Romick in Scottsbluff, NE and they enjoyed 52 wonderful years together. The couple made their home in Scottsbluff and Alliance throughout their marriage. The couple was blessed with two children, Tania and Richard. Both Richard and Kathy were wonderful caregivers for their family, although they served many different roles as caregiving throughout their marriage they always welcomed each new adventure with pride and loving care. Richard never met a stranger and always enjoyed meeting new people and spending time to share the story of their family journey. Richard saw the good in people and enjoyed spending time with his family.
Richard farmed until 1996 with his family then went to work for Bob Henderson, in 2000 he started working for the City of Alliance as a Sanitation Driver. He retired from the city after 16 years of service on July 1, 2017.
He is survived by his wife Kathleen, son Richard of Alliance, grand-daughters Ashly Lunbery of Alliance and Anna Meier of Gering, great granddaughter Brinlee Lunbery of Alliance, sister Jackie (Alan) Torres of Oregon, sister-in-law Betty Meier of Burlington, CO, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Tania, grandson Tyler Lunbery, brothers Jerry and Robert.
Memorial services will be Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Alliance with Rev. Dr. Gideon Achi officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for a future memorial designation. They may be sent in care of the family to 1453 Colorado Avenue, Alliance, NE 69301.
