Robert K. Sanders, 69, passed away Saturday, January 22, 2022. Robert was a United States Marine Corps Veteran. He served with the Memphis Fire Department from 1983 until 1999. As a rookie, Robert was recognized as Firefighter of the Year. He is remembered by his fellow firefighters for his strength and bravery.
Robert was born December 26, 1952, to Orvel W. Sanders and Mary Sue Sanders, nee White. He was the youngest of three children and was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Frances Fitzhugh. He is also preceded in death by his wife of forty-eight years, Jo Craig Sanders, who passed away July 2021.
Robert is survived by his son Rick Sanders (Brenda) of Alliance, daughter Kristi Sanders (DJ) of Alliance, grandson Gabe Sanders of Alliance, granddaughter Abi Sanders of Millington, TN, and brother John Sanders (Brenda) of Munford, Tennessee.
Robert was best known for his love for family, his huge heart, and his life-long love of sports. He was an avid and loyal fan of University of Tennessee Volunteers and wore Tennessee orange with pride. A memorial service will be held in Tennessee later this year.
