Students from Regional West Medical Center School of Radiologic Technology took home six out of nine awards across various competitions at the 93rd annual Nebraska Society of Radiologic Technologists (NSRT) Conference, held April 25 and 26 in Lincoln.
The NSRT hosts an annual student symposium, bringing radiology students from across the state together. This year, 157 students participated in person, with 30 students competing online. The symposium featured a student bee, research paper competition, and electronic scientific exhibit competition.
The student bee, modeled after a game show, used questions provided by the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT). Benjamin Okraska, a second-year student, placed second, and Marcus Carillo, a first-year student, earned third place.
In the research paper competition, students were required to compose an original research paper of at least 1,750 words. Carillo won first place with his paper titled, “Photon-Counting Computed Technology,” and second-year student Adam Bell placed third with his paper titled, “Pediatric Brain Tumors.”
Carillo rounded out his winning streak in the electronic scientific exhibit competition with a first-place finish with his exhibit, “Noise Reduction in Photon-Counting CT.” Okraska secured second place with his exhibit titled, “MRI Imaging of ACL Tears.” All are students at Regional West’s School of Radiologic Technology.
