The Hawks from Hay Springs came to Alliance on Monday for a pair of ball games against St. Agnes in matches played at the Holy Rosary Parish Center. St. Agnes got the better of the guests, downing the Hawks in the varsity contest 38 to 13 and 35 to 9 in the JV battle. The Crusader varsity squad won for the fifth time in a row and now sees their record improve to 6 and 1 on the year. As for the JV team they improved 3 and 2 for the season.
The varsity game was played first and saw the contest close in the first period. Both teams scored 4 points each with the Crusaders getting points from Reese Armstrong and Aubree Shrewsbury. After one the score was tied at 4. After that it was all Alliance. A big second period by Armstrong helped the Crusaders pull away. Armstrong 11 points in the second while Hannah Benzel added a score. The Hawks were held again to just 4 points. At half Alliance led 17 to 8. Crusader defense was again stout in the third as the Hawks scored only one point. Four more Benzel points, a bucket by Shrewsbury and a hoop by Kaitlyn Shannon pushed the Alliance lead to 25 to 9 heading into the final quarter. Another 13 point scoring period by the Crusaders sealed the game. Armstrong paced the Alliance scoring in the fourth with 6 points while Shrewsbury netted 5. A basket by Crusader Maslin Breen ended the contest with SA winning 38 to 13.

St. Agnes was led in scoring by Armstrong who finished with 19 points while Shrewsbury was good for 9. Benzel added 6 while scoring 2 apiece were Shannon and Breen.
St. Agnes was also victorious in the JV matchup. The Crusaders build an early lead and cruised to the win. In the first period Alliance got scores from Shrewsbury, Amora Gonzalez, and Peyton Baker and led 6 to 3. Crusader defense was tough in the second as the Hawks were held scoreless. St. Agnes would get 4 points from Dawsyn Higgins which helped the hosts build a double figure lead. 2 points each by Gonzalez and Shannon plus a free throw by Baker made the score at half 15 to 3 in favor of the Crusaders. Four St. Agnes players found the scoring column in the third. Three points each by Baker and Higgins led the charge. St. Agnes also got 2 points apiece from Shannon and Gonzalez the increased the advantage to 20. Heading to the final quarter SA led 25 to 5. Four buckets by Shannon topped St. Agnes in the fourth. Another score by Higgins finished the game with SA winning 35 to 9.

All six Crusaders who played in the game scored led by 10 points by Shannon Higgins had a nice game ending with 9 points while scoring 6 each were Baker and Gonzalez. Rounding out the scoring was Shrewsbury and Breen who tallied 2 each.
