Saint Agnes Academy finished their fishing unit by walking over to Laing Lake to fish this past Friday. We received a grant through National Fishing In Schools Program (NFSP) to begin teaching “Cast A Lure, Catch A Student” curriculum in 2020.
After delays due to Covid, we were finally able to begin this unit after our spring break on March 14. Students learned about different freshwater and saltwater fish, how to flip cast, retrieval, tie knots, and many more things in this fishing unit.
The students were really excited to take a fishing trip. It was a chilly day, but the trout were biting, and a third-grade student even caught a huge catfish. We had Game and Parks help, along with so many parents and grandparents.
It was a special day to watch students spend time with their family, catch their first ever fish for some, and be independent and patient. I am looking forward to next year.
