Duane Schmidt Jr. was recently presented with a Quilt of Valor. Schmidt was a United States Army Staff Sergeant E-6 who served 11 years of active duty, 10 of which were in the infantry. During his service, Schmidt received the National Defense Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, a Purple Heart, the Combat Infantry Badge and the Army Commendation Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1980.
