Philip Garcia #87223, age 26, died recently at the Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP). His sentence started February 27, 2018. Garcia was serving a 26- to 46-year sentence for theft by unlawful taking, use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony and assault on a peace officer. All of the charges originated out of Scotts Bluff County.
The cause of death has not yet been determined. As is the case whenever an inmate dies in the custody of the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS), a grand jury will conduct an investigation.
