At around 12:45 p.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2022, one of the inmate trustee workers at the Scotts Bluff County Detention Center, David Lee Scroggins Jr., left the facility driving a white Scotts Bluff County pickup with an attached black trailer. The inmate was working outside the facility at the time, supervised by a Corrections Officer.
Inmate David Lee Scroggins Jr, age 50, has been incarcerated for many months and is awaiting trial on a variety of theft and fraud charges. Mr. Scroggins is a white male, 5’10, 210 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes.
On July 17, Scroggins was arrested without incident following reports from citizens, follow up by deputies, an off-duty Scotts Bluff County Detention Center Officer and the Scottsbluff Police Department. The pickup and trailer were also recovered without damage. Scroggins faces a charge of escape based on a warrant issued by the Scotts Bluff County Attorney’s Office. He is also charged with providing a false name at the time of his arrest, though he was identified by his tattoos.
