Second Quarter Scoring Woes Plague Lady Bulldogs in Season Opener Against Gering

A scoreless second period by the Alliance Lady Bulldogs was too much to overcome in their season opener versus Gering on Friday. The Dogs were outscored 12 to 0 in the quarter as the visitors from the valley went on to post a 52 to 22 win in a contest played in Alliance. With the loss, Alliance starts the year at 0 and 1. Pacing the Bulldog offense was senior Macey Seebohm who scored 9 points while Brooke Bailey tossed in 7. Gering also got the W in the junior varsity matchup which was the first game of the night. The guests downed Alliance 52 to 24 in a battle that was close in the first half before Gering pulled away late in getting the win.

Early on in the varsity game both teams looked sharp. Gering stormed out to a 6 to 0 lead before a three by Seebohm and free throws by Bailey and Seebohm sliced the Bulldog deficit to 1 at 6 to 5. At the 4 minute mark on the first, Gering went on another run. The G Dogs scored the game’s next 8 points to surge ahead 14 to 5. A trey by Alliance’s Paz Cody ended the scoring spree, but the quarter came to a close with a Gering three pointer and the visitors out in front 17 to 8. Foul trouble and cold shooting by Alliance hurt the Dogs chance of a comeback in the second. Gering seized control and outscored Alliance 12 to 0. Going to the locker room at half, Alliance was down 29 to 8.

The team would trade buckets in the early minutes of the third. Gering scored first and led 31 to 8 before a score by Seebohm made the score 31 to 10. The game’s next 11 points all belonged to Gering. Four baskets by the guests plus 3 three throws put the Gering’s advantage at 42 to 10. The period closed with an old fashion three point play by Seebohm and another Gering goal. After three periods, Gering led 44 to 13. Alliance had their best scoring quarter of the game in the fourth. The hosts scored 9 points in the final 8 minutes thanks to 3 baskets by Bailey. Alliance also got a free throw Shyla Salcido and a two pointer by KK Adams. Gering tallied 8 points in the period and went on for the 52 to 22 victory.
