On Sunday, the Alliance senior baseball club hosted Chadron. The Spartans were held to just 6 hits and fell to the Platte Valley 8 to 1. Alliance led 1 to 0 after three innings but faded down the stretch. Pitching for the Peltz Co were Spartan Espen Lanik and Cody Gallas.
A triple by Lanik in the bottom of the first got Alliance off to a good start. Kaden Ferguson scored Lanik on a RBI groundout that put Alliance ahead 1 to 0. In the second, Lanik struck out the side keeping the Peltz Co in front. Tony Escamilla had a single in the second but Alliance failed to score.
No runs were scored by either side in the third with Gallas garnering a hit for Alliance. Chadron took the lead in the fourth by scoring 4 runs. The guests used 4 Spartan errors plus a single to move ahead 4 to 1. Nason Thompson and Escamilla would single in the fourth for Alliance but were stranded. Using 2 hits, Chadron increased their lead to 4. A hit by Lanik in the home half gave Alliance hope. Unfortunately the Spartan didn’t score as Chadron held the advantage at 5 to 1. In inning #6 Chadron put the contest away with 3 more tallies. Four hits and a walk by the visitors made the score 8 to 1.
Alliance would not score in their last 2 chances.
