Seniors Kick off Clair Conley Tourney Facing Miles City

The 2024 Clair Conley legion baseball tournament began Thursday night with the Alliance Senior Peltz Co Spartans hosting the Outlaws from Miles City, Montana. Due to wet and stormy conditions the contest began around 9:00 and was the lone game of the evening. The cold and wet conditions did little to slow down the Outlaws. Miles City held the Spartans to just one hit and went on to post a 9 to 0 win in a four inning ball game. The Outlaws scored 6 runs in the top of the first and cruised to the victory.

Miles City would send 11 batters to the plate in the top of the first. Their lead off batter would reach and that was followed by a bunt for out #1. The next 7 batters would then reach base on 4 walks and 3 hits. After the final 2 batters were retired the Outlaws had 6 total runs.

The bats were silent for the Spartans in the bottom of the first. A well struck ball off the bat of Alliance’s Espen Lanik was caught in centerfield was followed by back to back strike outs by Miles City. After one inning of play the Outlaws led 6 to 0. The guests began the second with single but their runner was put out at second while trying to steal thanks to a nice throw by Spartan catcher Mikey Johnson. A Miles City run was then tallied by a walk and an Alliance error. After an inning and a half the visitors led 7 to 0.

The Peltz Co squad was denied any hits or runs in the second as the game went to the third with Alliance still down 7 to 0. A double play turned by Alliance shortstop Tony Escamilla in the third kept the Outlaws off the scoreboard. Unfortunately the Spartans were again quiet in the bottom of the inning as the Miles pitcher would record 2 more strikeouts. The Outlaws would score 2 more runs in the fourth and final inning thanks to a single and a walk that put the Alliance deficit at 9 to 0. A single by Lanik began action in the fourth but 3 straight outs ended the game with Miles City winning 9 to 0.
