Seniors Rebound with a Big Win over Sturgis

Game #4 for the Alliance Senior squad in the Veterans Classic in Rapid City tournament took place on Saturday against Sturgis. The Spartans rebounded for a loss earlier in the day to down the Titans 11 to 2 in a game called early due to the run rule. Alliance would bat just 4 times in the matchup but scored in every frame to get their sixth win for the year. Kegan Nelson was the Peltz Co starter and went 2 plus innings, striking out 4. In relief, Lexton Salcido ended the contest and had 1 k. On offense, the Spartans recorded 8 hits, led by 2 each by Kobe Strom and Tony Escamilla.

Sturgis was the guests in the scorebook and failed to score in the opening inning. In the bottom of the first, the Spartans scored three times. Jaxon Poss began things when he reached after being hit by a pitch. Up next was Braeden Clarke who drew a walk. Alliance’s first run then came when a wild pitch scored Poss. An RBI single by Strom ensued as Alliance went up by 2. Escamilla followed with a hit and an error by the Titans gave the Peltz Co their third score. In the second, Nelson had 3 strikeouts to keep Sturgis off the board. Two more tallies in the bottom of the inning helped Alliance maintain their margin. Miscues by Post 33 enabled Alliance to go up by 5. Salcido reached on error and moved to second when EJ Garcia was hit by a pitch. A single on a sac bunt by Clarke made the score 4 to 0. The Spartans’ final score came when another error by the Titans on a hit by Strom resulted in the Peltz Co’s fifth tally. After 2 innings of action, Alliance was up in front 5 to 0.

A two run scoring knock by Sturgis in the top of the third sliced the Titan deficit to 3. Alliance answered with one in the bottom of the frame. Hits by Jaxson Esparza and Nemnich started the mini rally. A fielder’s choice RBI out by Creighton Fritzler gave the Peltz Co a 6 to 2 cushion. Sturgis was held scoreless in the fourth while the Spartans put the game away with 5 runs in the bottom of inning #4. Hits by Poss, Strom, Escamilla, and Salcido helped the Spartan go up by 9. In the top of the fifth, the Titans again were turned away as the Peltz Co took the 11 to 2 victory.
