Twelve schools took to the track Saturday and competed at the Chadron Junior High Invite. With 115 points, Scottsbluff was first in the seventh grade boy’s division while Gering was second with 75 points. The Bobcats from Hemingford were fifth with 46 points. Alliance won the 8th grade boy’s race with 99 points. With 86 points, Gering was the runner up. Hemingford ended seventh with 26 points. Chadron was first on the seventh grade girl’s side with 96 while Gordon-Rushville was next with 82 points. The Lady Cats were 6th with 40 points. Gering was the winner on the 8th grade girl’s race with 124 points and Niobrara County was the runner up with 58 points. Hemingford finished the meet with 7 points in the 8th grade girl’s division which was good for ninth place. Top finishers from Hemingford were: Zane Frost who won the 7th grade boy’s 800, James Lanier who won the 8th grade boy’s 100 Hurdles, and Emerson Horstman who won the 7th grade girl’s 200.
“Proud of the way our JH athletes competed in their first meet of the season,” said Coach Joshua Dean. “Chadron ran a fantastic meet that allowed our 7th and 8th grade athletes to compete against other athletes in the same grades. We were proud of their maturity, their preparation, and their competitive attitudes.”
