Gering paid a visit to Alliance on Wednesday for a senior game between the Spartans and the visiting Platte Valley Companies. The Peltz Co defeated the guests in a 7 to 6 thriller. Alliance scored once in their final at bat to break the 6 to 6 tie. Starting pitcher Braeden Clarke went the distance, tossing all 7 innings and giving up 7 hits. With the win, the Peltz Co has a 17 and 7 record on the year. Alliance had 3 hits on the night.
PVC took the lead in the top of the first with 2 tallies. The visitors used a walk, 2 hits, and 2 sacrifices to go up 2 to 0. Alliance would get a hit by Carver Nemnich in the home half but no runs. Clarke would shutout Gering in the second while the seniors scored 4 times. Alliance loaded the bases with both Kobe Strom and Nason Thompson reaching after being hit by Gering pitches and a walk to Cody Galles. Tony Escamilla followed with a hit to pull the Peltz Co to 2 to 1. Alliance’s second run came when Espen Lanik walked to tie the game. Run #3 ensued when Nemnich was hit by another pitch. A wild pitch by Gering finished the inning with the Seniors leading 4 to 2.
Inning 3 had the Platte Valley get one run to close to 4 to 3. In home half, the Spartans received a hit by Jaxson Esparza but no runs. An Alliance double play in the fourth kept the guests off the board. The Spartans went scoreless in their at bat in the bottom of the fourth.
In the fifth, Clarke had a 1-2-3 inning of the mound while the Peltz Co extended its margin with 2 runs. A couple of walks plus an error by Gering made the battle a 6 to 3 contest. Platte Valley scored twice in the sixth with a 2 RBI hit to get within one. No runs for the Spartans in the bottom of the frame. Gering knotted the affair with one score in the top of the seventh. In the Spartans’ last at bat, Alliance scored once to win the game. Esparza walked to begin rally. A sac bunt by Strom was next but Esparza was out at second. Tanner Salcido then pinch ran for Strom and moved to second after Thompson was hit again by a Gering pitch.
