As an organization that is over 108 years old, Girl Scouts are well-versed in changing with the times to stay relevant. This past year has been especially challenging for everyone, including the Girl Scout sisterhood. We build strong girls through programs, camps, travel and experiences. So, when that can’t happen, we pivot and create new ways to learn together, while staying apart. We share friendships, tutorials, games and fun…virtually!
This past weekend, girls from across Nebraska joined me for a virtual program to learn all about charcuterie boards and catering basics. What’s a charcuterie board? It’s the latest trend in culinary creativity. The charcuterie board craze starts with any kind of tray or cutting board from your kitchen. This will be the display space for your favorite meats, cheeses, crackers, dips, cookies, carrot sticks and more! Heaping piles of crudites, mixed in with rows of neatly cut salami make for a menagerie of flavors all on one board.
Cutting boards and a list of suggested food supplies were sent to each participant. We met through ZOOM, where I shared tips on food display and flavor composition. The results were incredible! Each girl truly designed a food masterpiece. They are going to WOW their families this holiday season!
