Shelmadine and Vergil Power Lady Crusaders to Second Place Finish at Best of the West

Scottsbluff hosted the annual best of the west junior high track meet on Tuesday with over 30 teams taking part. Placing second with 51 points were the Lady Crusaders of St. Agnes. Gering won the girl’s division with 82 points. Scottsbluff was first on the boy’s side with 65 points with Gering second with 62. St. Agnes scored 23 points which was good for eleventh. Bringing home first place honors for the Academy were Penn Vergil and Alexis Shelamdine. Vergil won the 800 with a school record breaking time of 2:34 while Shelmadine got the gold in the pole vault with a mark of 8’0. Shelmadine was also second in the 100 hurdles with Maslin Breen taking the silver in the high jump. Reese Armstrong was second in the pole vault. For the Academy boys, 8th grader Tripp Johnson garnered 2 second place finishes in both the mile and 800. The Academy 2 mile relay was third with team members: Johnson Paxton Richey Braden Myers and Tatum Devlin.

St Agnes boys broke the 2 mile relay school record at the meet in Scottsbluff.
