Snow-Redfern Announces Scholarships

Snow-Redfern Foundation is honored to announce that three Alliance High School Seniors have been selected as recipients of the newly developed Hempel Family Scholarship fund, memorializing the late Edward M. and Eda S. Hempel.

The three inspiring young people selected by the Snow-Redfern Foundation to receive the Scholarship in the fall of 2020 were Taylor Manion, Khloe Felker, and Madison Adam.

To qualify for this scholarship, Taylor, Khloe, and Madison had to demonstrate intent to be enrolled, full-time, as students working towards a degree at an accredited Nebraska post-secondary college and be able effectively demonstrate resilience.

In the fall, Taylor will attend Chadron State College to study Physical Therapy with a minor in Sports Medicine; Khloe will attend the University of Nebraska- Omaha to pursue a Pre-Dental Hygiene degree; and Madison will attend the University of Nebraska- Lincoln to pursue a degree in Agribusiness with a Livestock Industries focus.

Preference for this scholarship is given to young people residing in the greater Alliance region who are planning to remain in the area following completion of their higher education.

“We are honored to offer this benefit, which pays tribute to the memory of Edward M. and Eda S. Hempel, and are pleased to award this scholarship to students, such as Taylor, Khloe, and Madison, who possess impressive qualities, including leadership, service, and dedication to academic studies,” commented Sara Nicholson, Executive Director of Snow-Redfern Foundation.

This is the first official scholarship awarded by the Snow-Redfern Foundation, with the foundation’s funds primarily being allocated annually for grants that support non-profit organizations serving opportunity youth across the state. The foundation looks forward to other potential memorial scholarship funds that honor Nebraska residents and impact young people. “We were blessed with the opportunity to award this generous gift honoring Mr. and Mrs. Hempel, who were consistently generous contributors to Snow-Redfern Foundation, formerly the Nebraska Boys Ranch. Mr. Hempel was a long-time board member and he and his family supported the youth at Nebraska Boys Ranch through service and contributions intended to impact the lives of the youth placed at the Ranch”, shared Snow-Redfern Foundation’s Vice President and Grant/Scholarship Committee Chairperson, Jared Mracek.
