Spartan Juniors Down Outlaws from Miles City 6 to 4

The Alliance Spartan Peltz Co. Junior team made just enough plays Saturday morning to down the Outlaws from Miles City 6 to 4 in baseball action in Alliance. Starting pitcher Jackson Smith got the win, going 4 and one third innings. Smith gave up only 4 hits while striking out 3 batters. The Spartans garnered 6 hits led by second baseball man Jaxon Poss who finished with 2. Also getting hits for Alliance were: Lexton Salcido, Nason Thompson, Kobe Strom, and Kegan Nelson.

The Peltz Co started out strong right from the start. After shutting the guests Alliance quickly went to work in the bottom of the first. Shortstop Nelson began the scoring with a leadoff single and then stole second. Nelson would score following a Miles City error and a wild pitch. Strom would then reach and was pinch run for by Espen Lanik. The speedy Spartan would steal a base and score on another Outlaw error. The inning ended with a Poss hit and the Spartans out in front 2 to 0. Smith would then record 2 strikeouts in the second, keeping the visitors off the scoreboard. With 2 outs in the bottom Alliance would increase their lead. Salcido singled and would advance to second on another error by the Outlaws. Nelson then plated Salcido with an RBI hit and after two innings of play, the Peltz Co led 3 to 0. Another shutout inning by Smith in the third kept Alliance out in the lead. The Miles City deficit then grew to 4 to 0 in the bottom of the third. A one out single by Thompson started the rally. Tony Escamilla, pinch running for Thompson, scored on another error by the Outlaws.

After three complete Alliance lead 4 to 0. The Spartan margin was sliced in half in the fourth. Miles City used 2 hits to score 2 runs but a big strike out by Smith ended the threat. The Spartans went 1-2-3 in the home half on the fourth and the contest moved to the fifth with Alliance still leading 4 to 2. Miles City began the fifth with 2 walks and a run to draw closer. Spartan relief pitcher Cason Stull was called in and got a sweet double play by Nelson at short to put out the fire. Alliance answered with a rally of their own in the bottom of the fifth. A single by Strom was followed by a walk by Thompson. Poss was next and singled as the Spartan lead grew to 6 to 4 heading to the final inning. Salcido replaced Stull on the mound for the last 3 outs. Miles City would score on a hit and a walk but a Salcido strike out and fly ball to right finished off the Outlaw rally.
